What would you prefer as a sales person?

Salary is easier but hourly allows for overtime pay.

California made the switch a few years ago.

COMMISSION! That's what you should want in sales. Untapped potential for income.

As far as base pay goes, definitely salary as opposed to an hourly rate... that being said, I don’t get the impression you’re slinging SaaS or b2b tech / software because i’ve never heard of an hourly rate in those domains and it would raise eyebrows.

The reason why salary is preferable is simple: Just because the possibility of doing overtime exists doesn’t mean it’s a practice that will be encouraged. Quite the opposite, it’s generally frowned upon and discouraged because the general expectation among companies at large is that you will work efficiently to get all your work done within your regular schedule.

Personally, I would never accept an hourly pay rate.

Yeah I won't go back either.

I wasn't aware hourly rates were a thing for B2B sales.  That's what I get for assuming 🤷‍♀️

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
I want to add some detail around how this can work.

I worked for a California based company that did this for the BDRs and mid-market/SMB AEs. Our base salary was guaranteed as long as we didn't go past our allocated vacation days (I think I had 18). Anything over 40 hours a week INCLUDING TRAVEL, we got OT. For tradeshow weeks, you could be talking 50+ hours of OT.

Additionally, we had normal commission structures with accelerators and the works. A good friend of mine banked $20k in OT and another $150k in commission. That shit was awesome.

Definitely salary. I work overtime when I need to, to close deals. I wouldn't want to have to rely on OT pay to keep afloat.
