Sales Books. What're your suggestions?

I recently just jumped into, Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss. One of the FBI's greatest hostage negotiators. It's one that I've been meaning to check out for a while and it gives a great insight into complex negotiation tactics. But explained and told in a very comprehensible manner. Just within the first few chapters, I've learned some great new positioning on simple tactics!

What are you reading currently? Or what sales books would you all suggest for more experienced sales folks?

"New Sales. Simplified."ย by Mike Weinberg.

There are a lot of great sales books out there and you'll get some amazing suggestions but this is my favorite sales book. It's simple and to the point and it follows our sales process pretty closely. I like to dig into this book every few months to remember the basics and stay grounded in my process.

Another good one from Weinberg is his book on management creatively titled "Sales Management. Simplified." Lol but on a serious note, it's a good one too.

48 Laws of Power is sick. It's not necessarily a 'sales' book but a lot of the rules in there can be applied to business. I'm sure you can make it applicable to sales if you get creative.

This is actually more of what I look for nowadays. Let's be honest. After 7+ years.. If you haven't mastered some fundamentals...ย

So books that can teach to hone those fundamentals in different ways are fantastic for salespeople over 3+ years. Not to mention, it all depends on your kind of sales. I'll check this out!

"How To Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie. I know this book gets thrown around a lot, but it really is so underrated and can be used by anyone in everyday life. Even if you don't have a career in sales, I'd recommend this book to anyone.

"Sell It Like Serhant" by Ryan Serhant is also a gold mine. I listened to the audiobook version and it was great.

And for good ol' fashioned, timeless sales know-how, "Smart Calling" by Art Sobczak. His training and podcasts are also great too. Authentic, low-pressure, and effective sales techniques that have stood the test of time - without the gimmicky "guru" shit you see all over social media these days.ย

How To Win Friends is just one I can't bring myself to take the time on... Taking 4 years of studying communication studies in college - I feel I got everything that book would cover.ย

it definitely isn't the quickest of reads - but I'd highly recommend getting into it. you'd probably come across things you learned with your communications degree no doubt, but even the examples that are outlined throughout the book are great to really see how the teachings can be applied in everyday life. i even recommend this book to people who aren't employed in sales - there's a TON to learn and grow from in here.

Daniel Pink has some strong content out there. Honestly, been way more into the Podcast game lately (Make It Happen Mondays, 30 Minutes to Presidents Club, etc.). Strategies in sales books seem to not always age the best (i.e. anything Grant Cardone has ever said).

I think it's good to have an understanding of the history of sales thinking to get a true grasp on the WHY certain best practices are suggested today. This also helps you have more context to future proof yourself.

Some choice selections:

Sandler (Bicycle book)
Challenger sale & buyer
Questions Based Selling
GAP Selling

However I think knowing your industry and your buyer is way more important than any sales theory. I've closed massive deals where I made many mistakes, but they still closed at a reasonable pace because I demonstrated so much knowledge of their problems.

Challenger is good, just needs to be rethought overall. Also depends on who is teaching you/how you position certain points.ย

"Start with No" by Jim Camp is pretty helpful as well especially when it comes to learning negotiation techniques. This book breaks down Jim Camp's decision-based negotiation system.

All of Jeb Blount's Books - "Virtual Selling" is my current favorite. Nothing groundbreaking but helpful reminders to keep you motivated and refresh your sales techniques.

The Art of The Sale is great. It goes into individual reps stories chapter by chapter and ties into all of the trials and tribulations that sales professionals go through. A Very enjoyable read, although one could be written with the brain trust of stories from the savages here.

It is not a fundamentals or self-improvement book, although there are takeaways. It's a good read on the profession written by a very good writer. I think it's a better book on sales in general than To Sell is Human, although they are different takes.ย
