?Sales coach?

Promoted from SDR to AE 5 months ago at my startup and I feel like i'm struggling to get a handle on MEDICC/compelling event. There's no sales training or enablement available so I'm considering hiring a sales coach to up-level.

Does anyone have experience with hiring a sales coach? Curious to hear what other startup sales savages have done in this situation?

What about Becc Holland's courses online or you have JB Sales by John barrows.

Those are both good resources, but it depends what you're looking for.

Great suggestion - I'm familiar with both but didn't realize they offered online training materials for MEDICC. I'll check that out today!

I don't have experience in hiring one but I've spoken with a few happy to recommend or share thoughts from folks that used it.

has your leadership gave you a budget? or you want to invest in yourself?

Yes please recommend! I've never asked if there is a budget for sales coaching - however my feeling with how bootstrapped the mentality has been that the money is not around.

I would consider investing in a sales coach out of my own pocket.

I work for a Fortune 500 so drastically different from a start up, but I've had the opportunity to work with a sales coach that was made available to our team via a firm resource.

IMO it's hit or miss, our sales coach was already vetted by other teams and has an agreement with our region, so we knew what we were getting, but I know other sales people at my firm using outside sales consultants.

Our coach is very good at reviewing our sales strategy and overall sales approach and diagnosing missing areas or opportunities and showing the big picture in an easy to digest viewpoint.  We meet with him on a monthly basis and he drives the conversation and brings great ideas and approaches to us.  In your position if you have the budget I would interview a few consultants / sales coaches that have had similar start up clients and have impactful case studies.

Thank you for the response! Would you pay out of your own pocket for sales coaching?

I personally wouldn’t unless there was a strong hurdle I wasn’t able to overcome on my own or from reading all the various sales books and literature out there.  For example if I had a problem with making the ask or closing pitches and no amount of introspection and reading was helping me, I’d probably resort to outside help as the coach may be able to isolate something I can’t myself, but if I simply wanted to create a 2021 sales plan or territory map etc. I would try to handle myself through free resources.

1000% I'm specifically having issues with MEDICC and I think it just comes down to repetitions and question selection.

Worried to put the ask in RevGenius because I don't want to get blasted with offers....

Thank you again for your feedback!
