sales coaches

how do we feel about "sales coaches"

it seems 90%+ are grifters who got burnt out at their actual sales job, and chose to use their marketing skills to market themselves

a lot of the content on LinkedIn seems to be detached from reality, and is from people who aren't actually selling a product, they are selling themselves.

maybe i'm a grumpy dumb sales dude but a lot of folks are trying to reinvent the wheel, when sales is quite simple, it just takes hard work, grit, and some social / emotional intelligence.

They suck. They take popular methods and add their twist to it, which generally isnโ€™t that helpful.

They are good at taking money from small and mid sized orgs and their CROs tho.

Youโ€™re correct. Most are crooks.

Depending on what you sell and to who, there is strategy and some technique, but in the end it does boil down to hard work and being smart about things.

Youโ€™re better off hiring a sports psychologist or performance coach. They will change your mentality, which is required to remain pliable and adaptable. Thats how you push through plateaus and ignore culture wormholes.

Most are garbage or get really lucky at one company, ie.)Salesforce in the early days, AWS... Here is the thing, these reps may have successful strategies for closing deals and all but they usually had gigantic brand recognition behind their name, I wanna learn from the guy that didn't have brand recognition and still did really well

Second this:

I wanna learn from the guy that worked at a startup I've never heard of and had it later get acquired by a larger org. That guy grinded it out one deal at a time and did pretty well for himself.
