Sales Managers? What to look for?

Hey All,

I am looking for a new job, and I want to look for a job with a sales manager who can make me better. What should I look for? What are the red flags people see?

My current job pays well but my manager is lackluster and doesn't have the skill or desire to upskill his team.

Hey man, it's not always the manager you should be leaning on for coaching. I would look for established sales teams with a short sales cycle product (i.e. advertising solutions or SMB project management solutions). This would give you an opportunity for more at-bats and surrounds you with talent that can raise your ceiling. Reach out to current reps on LinkedIn at companies you are interested in to get a vibe on this.

Good question - I try to use the time at the end of the interview to interview them. Ask them about a person they developed to become successful. Ask them about what it takes to be successful on their team. Things like that will tell you a lot.

Someone that will champion your growth. My best boss said I was too smart to be doing this, and wouldn't rest until I left the company and got a role better than his. Best mentor ever. Sadly died of Cancer a few years after I made it to a big league roll in the industry. Great Guy. RIP L.H.
