Ted Lasso style meeting: Let's talk about what we are doing great, but also inspect what's not going great with some humor and humility.

My goal in all team meetings is to showcase the goal and develop a path to get there. Let's use the strength of the reps on the team to develop a path to success for EVERYONE, not just the individuals in the room. Who's got the best demo? Let's review it. Who's got the best follow-ups, let's share the template. Things that get the strength out there to pick up the weaknesses of each individual.

I'm also a fan of creating BHAG (big harry audacious goal) rewards. If we hit 150% of the plan as a team, we all get to do XYZ thing and it's gonna be BIG.

Damn. Can I come work for you? This is the exact content I am looking for us to discuss.

Also thank you for teaching me about BHAG 😎

Before you plan your meeting, ask yourself, “Do I even need one in the first place?”

Such a simple question that management should ask themselves before requiring a meeting, but don't. 😆 I do agree with your point. Meeting burnout is a real issue since WFH.

On a real note, I think speaking accomplishments and analyzing wins is a great way to pick up new techniques and tricks that can be implemented by others. Doubles as motivation to be "featured" in those meetings.

Really like my manager, but he has a 30-min daily standup that is not helpful.

He learned that somewhere. I personally detest them. Tell him what would be valuable to you, any good manager should want feedback from the team so they can adjust.

Getting feedback is a great idea.

Quick round table with everyone stating one way they’ve been killing it this week and one thing they’re struggling with and other team members weigh in.

Set an achievable goal for individuals and as a team with a cold hard cash reward and send everyone back to the phones.

I like this idea of creating a safe environment to bring a struggle to the table so the team can help solve the issue. No judgement and no push back from management.

Exactly. We do this at my current company. We all end up facing the same challenges at one point or another so I find it really helpful. Also good because you realize that even the most senior and well respected reps struggle.

Sigh…I’ve literally never worked anywhere that this has actually worked. Nobody shares their success stories and they only want to bitch about marketing, the economy, even when it’s actually decent, updating the CRM or whatever excuse as the things they’re “struggling” with.

That sucks. It works well on my current team but we have a good group of people. If your company is full of dumbasses, blowhards, and negative Nancies then all meetings will be unbearable lol.

We do this at my current company. Call it Friday morning round robin. Pretty helpful actually.

If you really want to embrace the way of a manager, demand an unrealistic forecast from each member and pressure them into forecasting something they need more info on

I was out most of the morning lol. To be bluntly hones I hate meetings. I hated running them as a manager, regardless of the fact I needed the forecast/pipeline ones. I think one of my best decisions as a manager (and I can’t be sure really) was to ban meetings 4 days a week. Only reps could set-up meetings, and myself but I only kept forecast meetings on Mondays. For engagement, I eliminated the agenda and killed powerpoint and excel. We went straight to sfdc. I think these things helped but again, being honest here, I hated running meetings. That being said, a rep in my last team suggested we had “fuck-up night” style meetings every now and then. We did every other month. Non mandatory, and I got approval for beers. That was a hell of sn experience! Not my idea though I added the “non mandatory” part lol.

I would do three objections each meeting and role play them in different ways, the next day do another three and so on, until we are masters of dealing with objections and cultivate a positive reaction when objections are made 💪🏼💪🏼

Yeah, I inherited a team of CS people who do order tak…I mean sales, soooo, my meetings are all sales 101, which appears we need 087…but you can’t teach want to, and they definitely don’t want to do the sales stuff that I’m telling them, which works great and is literally in every top selling book, but nah…”that’s not how it works here, our customers are ‘different’ and we don’t like anything pushy like asking questions.”

Or a new team…I’m actually going to stop trying to teach how to sell and switch to a results focus. Problem there is they’ve never been held to goals before…yeah, breathe that in for a moment. So they’ll have goals and will need to be able to measure them so they’ll have to use the system, and they won’t be able to meet the goals without changing their approach. The results focus will also create accountability. Veiled forced adoption for the win!
