New VP of Sales is in and one month he has no Scooby-Doo about the product or the industry. The whole Sales and Marketing team is trying to train the guy but has no effect. The dude is jacking off half the time. Makes it difficult to consult him on crunch decision as he is the contact point for now. (Yup, the old VP and the 2 Sales managers got the boot at the same time) But boy this new guy is going to crap the quota for us. CEO has been dick riding him but we are waiting until the facade clears, just think it is going cost some people their jobs. No one is close to hit the Quota in the whole organisation and the outlook is bleak

100% and make sure thereโ€™s a paper trail (e-mail, slack, teams) of you coming to him with questions on stuck deals, problem prospects, etc. you want to be able to show the CEO you were a team player, coming to the VP for help. If heโ€™s that ill equipped his responses to you will likely show glaring holes and youโ€™ll have them in writing.

Running log. As many words as it takes. Keep it factual. Sorry, that blows.

Ouch, sorry it's happening.

Thumbs up for the color commentary, though. Solid rant and extremely descriptive.

---and from a practical perspective, do what pbc recommends, which is document. Are you looking for something new yet?

I bet this is a startup sales environment, even though it can be wrong. Such a start sales strategy.

Fire fast, hire newly incompetent person, overly coked-up CEO/leadership jumps around all excited over the new hire, any opposition to any degree is labeled "poor attitude", and lather rinse repeat.

As @poweredbycaffeine said, keep a trail of the paperwork and start looking for work just in case

Try to report once again -along with your teammates- the challenges you're facing with your quota,if still nothing happens you can either wait until VP leaves or jump the ship if you think he'll still continues to be the sailor for a while!

Elaborate on the dick riding by the CEO...this has more red flags than all my ex's combined.

The CEO think this guy discovered water as in his previous role he closed big contracts. He has left him for his own devices. Being a Start-up we are used to the CEO poking his nose in all matter. But seems to be not for this guy

Really curious as to what advice you would give others to prevent these things from happening.
We're looking for a VP Sales in my org now after I've led all B2B Sales thus far, we're seeing immense growth so they're looking to bring in a senior to lead B2B now to the next level..

Head Of Sales
Any head of sales kinda guy who can push forward?
Same happened to my and head of customer success. He made VP success and Iโ€™ll make VP sales soonโ€ฆ no risky business for CEO and management to trust people who are already within the company and enable them to step up

Interesting. Looking to make the step to the next level myself. Been strong with strategic execution. Can't put a lot of time aside for it because I'm working on day to day sales which takes a lot of time.
Thinking about asking to bring someone in that can take over the sales execution as i work on the strategy & leading our B2B people.

Feel like they're more looking for someone that has already done it and the typical sales guy. I'll look to convince them as someone that can already do the job with some coaching & management training being a better investment than a senior who will come in and may or may not be a good fit for our growth.

Others have stated this, but I will piggyback... DOCUMENT your activity-- meetings, outreach, networking events (if they apply), etc. If you're truly worried, you may need to come up with an exit plan. I'm sorry to hear!
