Salesforce just reached out to me for an AE role, but they just had layoffs, whats going on?

A recruiter for Salesforce reached out to me yesterday. Normally Id be thrilled because I am looking for a new position. That said, didnt they just cut a shit ton of sales jobs a month ago? Why would they get rid of veteran reps just to hire new ones? Would taking the gig be stupid or should I go for it anyway?

They did the same to me. I asked them why they are hiring when they just laid off so many people and are probably going to lay off more. Then the recruiter got laid off

So this recruiter and I actually spoke a few months ago and I told them timing wasnt great but feel free to reach out in a few months. After seeing all the layoffs, especially of recruiters, I assumed she'd be one of them. Was pretty surprised to see her reach back out.

I hope the recruiter that got laid off was one of the crappier ones. God knows that recruiting team needs diversity more than a Trump rally does.

Ask them! They may have shed underperformers, or those AEs who were more expensive, or ... ?

They may also be expanding a pool of applicants while also interviewing those recently cut reps.

It's a good question to ask.

Fire the expensive, middling, or underperforming reps, and hire cheaper ones that stand a better chance to be successful with the larger territories they can now offer you.

I would be asking these questions in an interview if you say yes.

It is a massive company, one side of the org might be doing well and still hiring.

Also they might be getting rid of the meh-performing expensive senior reps to replace with jr-mid

I'm a troll.

Follow-up and ask if you're still being considered.

Please report back to war room with findings and screen shots.

I actually was just reached out to as well. Tons of reasons as to why companies would be hiring/firing at the same time.

I worked there as a Core AE for 18 months not that long ago. THE RECRUITERS ARE THE BEST SALES PEOPLE IN THE ENTIRE COMPANY. so don’t fall for the allure. They LIE.

Unless you are late in your career and already made your money somewhere else I would highly advise not working there. You will be second fiddle to all the people that have worked there forever and you will see them get all the good accounts. This means you likely won’t make money. There is no rhyme or reason to who gets what other than the good old boy system.

Take the offer only after trying to network with either the HR or even any of the laid off savages.

If it was cuz mainly the performance NP, if it was something else you need to think deeper as if you were one of these Fellas and you were fired for the XYZ reason would you see yourself in safe hands with this company or not!

Based on that answer you can choose either to proceed or even reconsider!

Best of luck,

They need rockstars. Approx 50% of their AEs accounted for 95% of revenue. Just like others have said here, they needed to cut excess fat.

I know someone who works at salesforce in sales, and they recommended that I not pursue a job with salesforce at this time.
I Quote:
”Honestly man unless led by God, not a good time at salesforce.Investors are trying to take over the company. Causing the CEO to do layoffs and make a bunch of changes. He's forced or they will vote him out.Employees literally in the middle of a war“

There is major pay realignment happening in the tech industry. Over the last few years, there was a wage war and hiring binge going on with most high tech companies. With all the tech professionals being dumped into the job market over the last six months, companies are shedding their higher cost resources in exchange for hiring less expensive people. Supply and demand works both ways: When the job market is tight, people can command higher pay. But when there are more people than jobs, pay will come down to reflect supply of qualified people for the jobs.

@Rajan I would advise to keep the relationship with your recruiter at SF and be transparent with your concerns. If you're in a job now that you can hang on until the end of the year I'd say to hold tight but tell them you'd like to keep the door open. There's been a lot of reorganization and with the pausing of hiring and then layoffs it seems like a risk that I wouldn't be able to take unless there's assurance I would have a considerable severance if laid off due to non-performance reasons. That is reasonable and SF has incredible benefits and work life balance. Their market is saturated, but if they come calling you definitely want to listen. If you are unemployed then I'd jump at the job if you and hiring manager hit if off.

A lot of companies are building "bullpens", which sucks for us. You go through the interview process, then get ghosted. Suddenly 6 months down the road, you get a call. Also, I'm not seeing as much sales being laid off, but, SFDC did drop about 100 sales and CX folks. Most of these tech layoffs are from over-ego'd folks at the top who figured they would just grow on and on and on. I read about how Twixter and others had hired tons of Soft Dev folks, who did nothing and got paid a ton, just so they wouldn't go to their competition. That ain't a sustainable biz model.

I had this conversation yesterday with a SF HR recruiter.

The short answer is that the have headcount available, and if a role is posted, they’re hiring for it.

The process takes 2 weeks to get placed
- HR screen interview
- Hiring director interview
- Panel interview
- Presentation
- Decision

SF has made cuts/layoffs, exits and promotions, but they need to bring on new people to fill some of those roles (under performers don’t get to keep their jobs).

One more thing of note, they are also in “back to the office mode”.

I have a call with a hiring director this afternoon and will be asking a lot more role-specific questions that the HR person couldn’t answer.

I worked for Salesforce for 5 years. This is typical behavior. We called it the "Salesforce Shuffle" if current AE's are not pulling weight, they are rolled out and replaced with new ones. When I was there, I was successful, but watched many great people get released. It is just the nature of being in Sales in a high pressure system..

Salesforce has bought a lot of companies over the years and as their products start to fit into one another there is naturally going to be overlap. I believe a lot of the lay-offs are coming from roles that were once needed but now can be consolidated as the platform is becoming more consolidated.

Companies use opportunities like one recently passed - to weed out underperforming and average-performing candidates and thereby reducing the cash outflow and using that amount to hire new talent to make up for the total capacity needed.

Take the opportunity

I applied for a position with them over 2 months ago. Still haven't heard anything back at all. Even called the HR department and they couldn't give me any info or a recruiter to contact. And because Salesforce Developers are a literal job title at companies, it makes it incredibly difficult to try to find one that could at least guide me in the right direction.

Why would you want to work there is my question? Selling the worst crm available.

I was contacted a few weeks ago and I declined. You don’t fire thousands and hire less. Unless they are paying for you to clean up their mess.

I was hired at a really good start up about 4 months ago for a SDR role that I was told I wouldn’t be in for very long. They’re gonna go public in the next year, but Zoom Info reached out to me about an Account exec position. Now I’m wondering if I should take the guaranteed route to AE or let my shares vest and get to AE at the place that took me. Usually I wouldn’t consider jumping so quickly, but AE is AE.

What’s the best companies to reach out to for SDR / BDR roles for a career changer looking for solid base comp and decent OTE (financial advisor made 120k last year 3 years hit quota every year cold calling running the sales process so I think I have relevant AE skills but I get taking a step down since I have no SAAS sales skills. (However I have 1.5 years of IT recruiting experience where I also crushed quota and learned a bit about IT broadly) Thanks
