Salesforce then Spreadsheets Galore!!!

So we use Salesforce for our core CRM, but management still wants activity reports and forecasts in spreadsheets. Interested to note if there are any Executives on here that can shed some light on why this happens? I believe this is common around the globe but would be interested to know why 'busy" work is given to sales people.

Let's put it simply: Executives love that you use your CRM but HATE using it for their own purposes.

Example: I ran sales ops at my last spot. CEO loved Looker (early investor, turns out) and wanted us to build all of our KPI dashboards in the platform. However, he wanted us to export all of the data into Excel for his consumption. He didn't want to be bothered by logging into the platform, especially on his iPad while he was working remote from his mansion on Martha's Vineyard. Many of our other execs felt the same way, so I set up a connector between Google Sheets and Looker so that it auto-dumped data every time the systems updated.

TL;DR: Execs invest in tech for your use, but don't want to have to use it themselves. it's easier for them to double your work output than to learn how to use a system or remember passwords.

That seems strange!

I have always had my own spreadsheet where I record all details I find important, which aren't commonly input correctly on the CRM, but for everyone to have to do it, that seems like overkill.

In all exec forecasts I've been in, it has been done from SFDC and the management accounts will have spreadsheets for budgeting etc, but all activity and sales numbers come from the CRM

The only reason I see for that is that they want data that is not included in SF. Otherwise they can just build reports/dashboards in SF.ย

You can build it in salesforce. ย Maybe it costs too much.

I find they aren't well versed in the programs they need to access the reports and rather than learn they would ask you to do the work for them.ย ย

I do one from my cell and one from the local number option in Outreach.
