Salesforce Trailhead

Fellow Savages,

I am looking for some personalized stories with Trailhead. I understand it is very customizable and a great way to learn/train yourself using Saleforce.

But what about the certs? What certs are worth getting, if any, and are they being used on top of your sales career or is it a job change?

Any insight would be great 😄

You can go down a TrailHead rabbit hole, and tbh, I don't think any of it is a bad idea. I would suggest asking yourself "what am I looking to get out of this?" Are you looking for marketing paths? Operations? Enablement? Or, just not to suck at updating your SFDC instance?

Start with the basic few badges and learn how to update things from the get go, then dive in from there.

Personally, I am grabbing my SFDC Admin - I feel like having that in my belt is a secret weapon career wise

Do you feel it is a secret weapon for future promotions, or how come?

I am looking to gain knowledge on using all parts of Classic and Lighting, with a specialization in Solutions Engineering. I have about 15 badges. I love the User Experience of it. It's fun.

I want to have the Admin cert.

Go do it!

I have always found just diving in is the best way to learn on SFDC. Once you get to the basics of understanding how the "layers" are built,  building reporting and dashboards is fairly strait forward.  And unless you plan on being a developer - I can't think of any real use case beyond reporting you'd need to master.

Thanks for the reply! Reporting and dashboards would be great, perhaps I will start there.

If your in the ecosystem, getting a cert cant hurt. I feel compelled to get mine but it would take some time + energy for sure. None/very few sales reps at my company have ever done it, but it would for sure be a big boost to my credibility/knowledge.

Why do you feel compelled?
Also, do you plan do change jobs at all afterwards? I've heard stories of people doing consulting/contract admin work on the side. Do you feel that is viable?

I feel compelled because my product is basically something that any Salesforce using organization should implement- an increased understanding/cert would give me more credibility as im working mostly with certified prospects.
