Sandbagging Repercussions

In regards to the previous post about delaying deals.

I sandbag my activity in the CRM all the time but never sandbag an actual deal. Have any of you run into problems from sandbagging? i.e. prospect pulls out, budget change, etc.

(Also why is it called sandbagging?)

Have you ever had a deal go south after sandbagging?

Im in SMB so things can move quick (order form signed hours after sending it out). Im starting to see that sandbagging is almost a necessity if you want to hit quarterly number (Even though if you close immediately you can still hit annual number without sandbagging) .

If it's the last week or so of the quarter you can sandbag pretty seamlessly without flaws. I've never had any issues. I haven't tried pushing it much further. I'd be interested to hear if anyones been able to sandbag for a month+?
