Savages, what are the sign's to call it quits on a new job? Considering it atm.

Hey Savages,

3-months in at a digital freight company, and well, it's rough.

Gone from SaaS where I leveraged multi-channel to beat target to cold calling SME's off a list who have no digital presence and mainly getting stuck with GK's who pass over sales@ emails.

Sold on the sexy boutique customers when I signed.

Targets are high, the commission is low and doesn't contain an accelerator. (New plan was being developed during my interview)

Promotion min 2 years.

Positives - about to have a fat series B and the base pay is ahead of the market by a few G's.

Senior AE's say it should be better once things cool down by EoY.

Currently planning on trying to crush Q2 and if it doesn't happen reaching out those feelers.

Would appreciate your guys thoughts!

One thing that I've learned, is that one of the best and most important ways to evaluate a start up (or your position at one), is to examine the leadership / executive team... do you have faith in them? Do you respect them?ย

Products / tech are a commodity, but execution is not. So, if you have a rock star leadership that you believe in, and that believes in you, stick with it..... If you don't, do your best to crush Q2, then perhaps look into putting those feelers out there.ย

Complete faith in the founders - serial founders who have done the thing and have the t-shirt.ย

Variable now is the new VP of Sales and the SDR manager who they're hiring for.ย

Thanks for the perspective, Big Chungus, of an answer.ย

Senior reps are always justifying why they're still there. Base salary isn't what you're in the game for. That's what retail pharmacists want.ย

Sounds like it may be time to find the door. You have a nice cushy spot to hang in the meantime though, so make your next pick strategic.ย

Just my 2 cents. Been there. Good luck!

For me itโ€™s all about your team leader (if you have one).ย
If you get the resources and support you need, then Iโ€™d stick around to see if the ramp kicks in

I remember Corp saying in another thread that it's wise to interview at least once to twice a year to stay sharp. You won't lose anything except some time if you start interviewingย

In no particular order, my top 3 priorities are always company, product, manager when considering a job. I ask myself these questions:

1. Do I believe in the future of this company, it's position in the market, and the overall strategy?

2. Do I understand the product/service and believe it provides real value to the target customer base compared to the competition?

3. Is my manager someone who I can learn from and grow under?

I typically give a company 6 months before deciding I'm done with them. Unless I feel I was betrayed or lied to by my employer, I'll leave regardless of how little time I've been there. (current situation)

I was hired at a really good start up about 4 months ago for a SDR role that I was told I wouldnโ€™t be in for very long. Theyโ€™re gonna go public in the next year, but Zoom Info reached out to me about an Account exec position. Now Iโ€™m wondering if I should take the guaranteed route to AE or let my shares vest and get to AE at the place that took me. Usually I wouldnโ€™t consider jumping so quickly, but AE is AE.
