SAVAGES: What's the Worst Sales Team You've Ever Seen?

I'll start: A few weeks after college I was looking for some local tech jobs in my area, and this tech-looking company hit me up asking for technology specialists. Might as well see what it was about, right?

Went into their office, and it was a complete joke. Decent location and building, but nobody looked like professionals, they were blasting loud music and had a ton of stupid, expensive toys laying around the office. The hiring manager kept bragging about how much money he made as he took me and the other candidate in for a 'group interview.' ๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ

He told us about the business model: cold call down lists of real estate agents, and read them scripts to sell them google ads. I knew right away that its economics didnt add up and it was a completely extractive operation essentially middlemanning google ads without any follow-up, proof of ROI, or support.

Complete shit show. Guy 'hired' both of us on the spot after 30 minutes of him talking and told us we'd be 'fired' if we showed up any later than 8 the next morning. They didn't follow up when I slept in.

What are the worst sales teams you've ever had a glimpse into?

The last company I was at

We might as well all have been self employed. Owner was completely hands off, spent most of his time traveling. We had 6 employees total.ย

0 training. 0 support. 0 resources except a laptop. All on you to succeed and figure it out.ย

I could never guess why he had such bad turnover...ย

Not the team, per se, but the organization.

Many years ago when I was early in my career, I was out of work and looking for something new. Came across this flashy present events company that claimed to target CEOs.

No real LinkedIn presence, their 'CEO' had no picture and a single connection. First of many red flags, but I figured it couldn't hurt to see what their deal was.

BS interviews, then they had us 'role play' and then said how there was promise in me (and everyone else, I'm 100% sure) but that I would need more development. Madness as I had successful sales roles previously.ย

So they said they'd offer it at 100% commission to start (bait and switch from the recruitment process that had a base salary).ย

I asked about a draw, and the idiot 'sales manager' played dumb and pretended not to know what one was, just more red flags and complete ridiculousness.

I didn't have anything going on so I said "fuck it" I'll show up for day one of 'training'.

I've put most of the details out of my mind, but more fuckery ensued on day one. Basically they wanted us to hammer the phones and lie to GK's to get through the executives and then lie to them about who was going on vastly overpriced 'executive trips' to the Masters or Bahamas or whatever.

On day 2, one of the 2 other guys just didn't show up, nobody said anything.

Then they handed me my employment agreement/contract/whatever, and I almost laughed out loud. 100% commission, but they reserved the right not to pay me out.ย

I emailed them (because I'm a professional) saying that it wasn't a fit and never heard back. Looked into them again a few months later and couldn't find ANYTHING on them.ย

Complete waste of time, and I knew it from the beginning, but I was young and had nothing else going on and frankly it was amusing.ย
