Interesting study on the impactfulness of video on zoom meetings. Curious how people here feel about it

Like the title says. Not a huge Huff Post guy but the study they linked looks legit. Obviously the study was not done for sales purposes specifically but I still think it could translate. Anecdotally I do feel like my non video calls have been more successfull but most things I read on linkedin only preach the power of video. Curious what people's thoughts here are

Oh my gawd. I've been on a relentless amount of video calls today, and I've been wondering why has everyone looked at me with pity.

I just caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror.ย  I put on eyeliner this morning and apparently forgot to finish the rest of my makeup.ย

Sweet. Baby. Jesus.ย

Iโ€™ve read too many studies from gong about how having the video on closes more deals ๐Ÿ˜ฉ.

Yeah I mean this study was about meeting effectiveness but not necessarily in sales. Iโ€™m not arguing one way or another, I just find it interesting. I will say Iโ€™m always skeptical about โ€œstudiesโ€ from gong that are clearly used to help sell their product. I took a class about market research in college and learned about the way things are cherry picked to get the desired conclusion and I can totally see Gong doing that.

I feel like I build rapport faster and people are nicer/more forthcoming on video

Sure, it makes sense outside of sales purposes. I'd say its opposite when trying to sell over video - human interaction with video seems to build more trust and making people laugh/building that rapport can't be done with audio only or at least not as well. Additionally, you can read their body language and reactions to guide your conversation.

In sales i prefer video because once you see people you act differently, there is more trust and you can see their reaction when you mention a ballpark price.

Yeah good point. I just thought the study was very interesting because you rarely see things from that point of view. Iโ€™d love to see a real study about it for sales purposes that isnโ€™t put out by a company like Gong trying to sell a product.
