Scam Companies (Theranos, Wework etc)

There are a lot of shows and documentaries out about companies with scammy founders and practices.

Do we have any savages in here who sold for these groups? Any stories that you can share?

Mainly asking as a time killer and interest with the extra attention on these types of companies with the shows and whatnot out.

I had sold to Theranos before and shockingly they weren’t great about paying…

A recruiter from my old company was at WeWork right before shit hit the fan. Look up Zenefits and the craziness there for a few laughs

I have two former bosses from separate companies who are both being sued by multiple states right now due to lies in their customer contracts.

Not well known but I worked for a Martech startup that WAY over sold the tech they built. Not your typical “marketing promises the world” kind of stuff, more like claiming they use natural language processing and advanced AI that was actually google sheets on the backend.

I used to work for a professional services company, specialising in marketing, that started to build out a tech offering as well. They thought going “SaaS” was their ticket to getting a high valuation and going public. They’d force all our clients to brief in work to us on a portal, a basic Dropbox like site, we built and started to have a large “platform fee” on all our deals so they could tell investors we were selling SaaS and to raise their valuation. In reality the clients just wanted our professional services though. Super dodgy

Worked for Better for a week and a half before I was laid off. CEO is a shady guy, if you dig deep into the origins of Better… you’ll realize how dirty it is. Huge lawsuits hidden to public that could damn not only him but the entire IP.

I couldn't even get WeWork in the pipe even once. Let alone selling
