Back when I was an SDR, my AE quit and went straight to our largest competitor. He immediately turned around and started coming after the deals we had been working for the last year. It was a pretty stressful time for me. Heโ€™s an AE now at one of the big cloud companies and still a dick.

Before we laid off our entire SDR team (thanks Covid!) I had an AMAZING relationship with the SDR I worked with. We were two peas in a pod, certainly on the same page and helped each other learn and grow. However, I know not all relationships are great. A lot of my co-workers had terrible relationships.ย

We've just recently started to hire SDR's back and its been a big adjustment. I've gotten used to running the whole cycle and the growing pains of trying to develop a new relationship with someone else and get on the same page has been hard.ย

@Foxany tips on what makes you feel supported and have a good relationship with the AE's you work with?

I feel like the luckiest motherfucker - I got hired because my content style on LinkedIn was good and stood out - literally headhunted - with that, my AE lets me run wild - I don't have activity KPI IE 40 calls a day or anything, he got them to KPI me onย  meetings booked only - they basically trust me in my skill set to get results, and because of that my AE kinda like...lets me run with the prospecting in my own way - he has even put a few meetings that he's got through referral thought as my meetings when I've struggled in covid to pull anything, and a lot of my prospect and personal brand stuff is humor based, and he has the same sense of humor as me we are the same age and we are good mates out of work - we are a team, it's down to how you get on out of work I thinkย

Good relationship for the most part, but priorities aren't always aligned.ย  My BDR is focused on qualified leads, and I'm focused on closed/won deals.ย  He just has to get a deal to 10%.ย  I have to take it the rest of the way.ย  Sometimes it's obvious that we won't win a deal, but it checks all the the boxes to be qualified, so he nags to qualify it so he gets paid.ย  As long as I can keep that in check, we work well together.

It depends on how close the alignment is between AE and SDR on the objective.

Typically, thereโ€™s lots of room for improvement.

I'm about to have a new sdr working with me. I want to make sure we can work well as a team. He has ambition, which is good.
