SDR/BDR under Sales or Marketing

Hello,

I am currently in a BDR at a software company. Recently they moved who I reported to from the Director of Sales to the Director of Marketing? Which is a better experience, especially if you are trying to move up in the company?

either or tbh, I would say sales because experiencing all parts of the sales process is very important

I would say what ever you are more interested in. Personally I would choose sales

Yeah, sales is way better - last org had it under marketing and it was a disaster. We called them sales delay reps.

Depends on the org and where you move up the chain, but sales will give you more relevant coaching.

If you want a better title, that would be marketing. If you want make more money, sales.

If marketing director hasn't been an SDR, made cold calls, sold or handled constant rejection vs your sales director who has, I know who I'd be more comfortable seeking advice from.

Depends on the desired outcome of your activity.  If you are trying to qualify opportunities and you own the process up to opportunity creation then I'd say sales.  If you are trying to set meetings and create some awareness then I'd say marketing.
