SDR of 6 years going into my first full cycle sales role

Hi Everybody!

I have been an SDR for over 6 years and the past 2 years I worked in start-ups creating their SDR department.

I got an offer I couldn't refuse from this bigger company to come on as a full sales cycle rep.

So coming in new, what do you wish you knew when starting in sales?

Is there bad habits I need to avoid by all costs?

This is also an open discussion because I would love to hear things you all have learned/wish you knew!

Congrats! DQ as much as possible if it doesn't fit ICP. You should be good since you've been an SDR as much. Not every opportunity is an opportunity and it will save your mental health.ย

That's really helpful, and thank you!ย

Solid advice, because I am getting that new salesmen hype where I just want to close a deal my first month. But, I need to focus on getting quality not quantity while I have this ramp up time.

100% - first deal is nice but first quality deal will create reference-able customers and referrals (which are my favorite deals).

Yeah, and my ICP is small HVAC/Plumbing business owners, so I know this will be the wave with being successful here!

I know I'm not suppose to ask but are you at FieldPulse? My buddy is the VP of Sales over there.ย

Six YEARS?

Is it because you stayed internal?

I didn't want to move into AE for so long because I thought working within Startups I could go straight to SDR Manager, but I realized last year I needed to learn the entire sales process before taking on that feat, and I needed more street cred selling some deals!
