SDR TO AE TO SDR again?

I have been with my company for about 14 months as a BDR and have been promoted to a regional sales rep which I believe is the same as an AE????

Anyway, going to that role seemed more of a lateral move in terms of pay, when I was a BDR I was in marketing and now I am in sales as a regional sales rep. Actually, my base pay went down a few grand.

Doesnt seems I am set up for success and I want to jump ship, problem is I feel like I would have to start over as a SDR.

Would you stick it out and gain more experience or jump ship to a SDR role at a new company and use that time to becoming an AE?

I'd try to stick it out for maybe a few months, and then look for AE roles. No need to go back to being an SDR

you should never take a pay cut moving from BDR to AE. that's not right at all. hate when companies just don't get how to properly operate. get your experience there and move into another AE role elsewhere. you shouldn't start over. We have BDRs that get AE offers from other companies all the time, so you should be able to get an AE offer somewhere. best of luck to you and keep us posted. hope it works out.

Yea not sure if BDR being in marketing has anything to do with it. They claim its a lateral move, but in the sales world, its a promotion.

There's companies that look for Junior AE's all the time as well as SMB AE's. honestly have the confidence to get the AE role and apply to those to take the role and don't accept someone telling you you're not qualified for it...

I dont see many Junior AE role and if they were they arent remote.

I enjoyed my time as an SDR. I wouldn't do it again. But I did enjoy it.
