Second interview

Hey guys and gals,

I have my second interview for a SDR role today. First one was pretty casual with the head of business development and head of HR. Now I'm speaking with the CMO who runs the SDR team.

What are some good questions to ask?

How many reps are hitting quota?
What training is provided?
What are the KPI's?
How long is ramp?

Those are better for the hiring manager. Ask strategy based questions - you have an opportunity to meet the head of the org.

“Where do you see this org in 5 years”
”what makes this team world class”
”apart from <feature> what makes <company> better than <competition> in your opinion?”
“Who was the best sdr you’ve ever hired and why”
“How does the promotion path to AE work here?”

Shit like that. You can Google “top questions to ask in an interview with an exec” and you should get some good hits

I'd also add to ask what happened to the previous rep?

I think asking about career development to that level is big. SDRs are hired in part to set meetings, but also as a funnel for the AE team.

Questions like "What's the standard career path for an SDR at your company?" "Do you promote based on seniority, meritocracy, or other subjective measures?" "What type of AE training is provided so when I position myself for a promotion I can continue to achieve at the next level?"

FYI, most of the answers will probably be bullshit. But it shows you are thinking big picture and see a long future of success at the company.

Some questions I've asked in addition to the others mentioned:
"What's the typical day to day like"
"Would I have the flexibility to create a process that works for me" (meaning you don't have to go word for word off every script they have
"What are some of the main objections you hear"

How do I become successful in the first 90-days? What podcasts/blogs do you recommend I get up to speed on before starting the position? How do you differ from your biggest competitor (bonus points if you can name a few competitors off the top of your head via research)?

These are really good as well! I had the interview yesterday and I did ask how they win against specific competitors!

Expected timeframe as a SDR until becoming an AE?

How they handle covid? Did they do a bunch of layoffs? WFH?

Churn rate? Are they constantly hiring and firing

Is commission structure okay to ask on the second interview?

I'd ask on the first if you don't already know.

No need to go through multiple rounds of interviews to find out the pay isn't what you expected.

We all work for money - if you ask the wrong person, they'll tell you "that's a question for XYZ" which then let's you know who to save the question for in the future.

Totally fair. Yeah they gave me the base range and variable from the start so I do know what to expect!
