Government VS Private Sector Clients

I've only sold to the private sector and I'm not stranger to complex sales cycles.

What are some of the broad differences? Is it really that different?

Yes - I think there are broad differences. In short - Government likes to make companies do a pony show & have bad reputation of ignoring potential solutions "because we've always done it this way". Also there are political requirements that can make things complicated - i.e require a "small business" to be a part of the bid. Government buyers are heavily criticized for being too prescriptive in their solicitations & eliminating highly valuable solutions because of bureaucracy.

Government Account and Bid Specialist
This is a great question! I have done both but I am currently a Government Account and Bid Specialist at my current company. What I will say is the opportunities in government can be huge (300k to 700k deals) but bids are usually required. Plus certain government sectors have spending limits or tech (5-15k per deal) before being forced to go to bid. So the unless your closing small deals constantly the government payout and be long and filled with red tape, but one contract can set your up BIG!

No problem! I always find people view Government Accounts as a "nice to have" but realistically it can be a HUGE opportunity to grow your business.Β
