Selling without a sales job?

I think about sales as a profession where I can be in control of my destiny and more time spend I should be able to get closer to the product-market-salesmen fit so I maximise my  own growth.
Wondering what do you people think about signing up referral programs with fellow SaaS startups to start selling their products and test how the market is responding to product before going full-in ( this way I can earn extra and build reputation with team )

backdrop: I already have a job but environment is not good and it's not going to get better but I can't quit the job (let's call it golden handcuff and must wait it out)   so I need to build optionality and also need a side income.

thoughts on this line of thinking ? have you explored something similar ?

Interesting idea. I would definitely be interested in running some tests by having some of my fellow savages selling my SaaS in specific industries or markets.

so a number of people here have talked about selling for companies as a side gig.

but i like your tweak on it, selling with the goal being to collect data and feedback from the market to test Product Market Fit.

I like it. would be pretty difficult but i like it

Yeah, typically referrals are around 10%. But if you do full cycle sales then you could get more.

So you're going to be a full cycle referral partner while also employed full time at another tech vendor?

Not me personally, but I’ve hired people who were 1099 with one company and did part time full cycle with me. The trick is setting clear expectations and ideally a specific ICP what they already had sold other non competing solutions to.
