SFDC cutting headcount 10%

Suh Fam,

Remember when Stewart Butterfield(ex-slack CEO) abruptly left SFDC, it appears larger things were at play and he was not a fan, SFDC cited that they had overhired in the pandemic and this move will take until 2024 to be completed along with a price tag of 2 billion.

The topic of discussion here is, you admittedly overhired, you saw growth and according to several reports demand for SFDC products is still high, so what changed now? Sorry to any SFDC people affected by this but the whole world seems upside down right now with layoffs and bad news.

Hoping that we start to see changes and more positive news and shortly cause seeing this stuff sucks.

May the odds be in your Favor,

Did you notice that they will get a minimum of 5 mos salary? I mean, it's sad that they're being let go, but that is really generous.

i wasn't sure the specifics of severance but that is a great saving face move by SFDC. 5 Months should be enough time to find something new for sure.

I’ve seen part of the communication from Benioff, and it’s also compassionate. It’s a pretty generous package.

Oh, absolutely. But 5 mos and some compassion beats "you all suck so get lost" which we pretty much saw from another would-be genius.

Yeah, it’s not even the end though, their Q4 ends at the end of January and then reps get the proverbial axe… it’s ugly.

I am assuming it will, there weren't many specifics in the article however it seems like the grim reaper is coming for roles across the umbrella.

Yeah, not sure their quarter cycle however I think their quarter ends at the end of January and doesn't follow the fiscal year.

That would be correct, the year end is at the end of this month. There are likely more cuts to come as this most recent 10% was only within AMER.

I don't know that this is all sales, they already chopped Sales headcount a few months ago and I believe this will be wider in the organization, I imagine that recruiters, IT, Marketing will all be reviewed and determine which positions are critical vs not.

The thing about a publicly traded company is that their responsibility to the shareholders will often outweigh their responsibility to the employees. I don't like the harsh truth any more than others but that is the reality. how do you boost the stock price? increase profits, easiest way to increase profits? Cut down headcount and cash burn. Ain't that a B*tch

It’s a temporary increase though, and don’t forget that the biggest shareholders are the executives and board. They all want their payouts.

Read somewhere that there's a herd mentality about layoffs. Once a company starts the wave, many will follow suit for whatever reason. Just hope this wave stops soon for everyone.

This isn't news on the "why". It's practically copy pasta statements from other CEOs who also laid off personnel due to the pandemic gold rush. What is news is the number of people that will be impacted and which roles are being impacted.

Yeah, I mean the why is verbatim what others have said. The real reason is what I am more interested in as opposed to exec jargon. I really hope the people that are watching this remember it when they get calls from companies for roles, when the company treated people badly.

Its crazy to think they over hired that much, maybe they assumed they would be constantly losing people also. So they were back-filling before people even left?!

Its really crazy to see this stuff going on.

Happy new year, it seems!
It's the story of every organization right now. Overhired, overpromised and underperformed. So now they need to cut their workforce short.
Sad.
8000 folks is a huge number.

That's so many people, holy shit. Gross irresponsibility on their part. Sick of people blaming the pandemic for "overhiring." Just admit that you need to reduce your bottom line because the economy is being taken out behind the barn.

I’ve heard the 5mo was in the states, but some people in Canada got a few weeks. Still no internal clarity on any of it in terms of who’s on the chopping block or what packages will be handed out

I don’t work there but we’ve seen them fuck with quotas and Salesforce success was always super dependent on territory anyway. Maybe they were always bloated? Still sucks for all the savages out there grinding their asses off and getting laid off.

I assume they're still about to post record profits at the end of their fiscal to get over the heartburn of a little bad press on layoffs. I hear the severance is above average and at least it's after Christmas.
