Shady Rep Claiming Commissions

At my company, if an outbound SDR reaches out to a prospect and instead of replying they go directly to our website to request a price quote, the commission becomes an 80/20 split (80% outbound/20%inbound). The rule is: any outbound activity within 90 days is eligible for the split, which in my opinion is quite generous. Any activity after 90 days goes 100% to the inbound SDRs.

We recently discovered that an outbound SDR was claiming accounts that were past 90 days and one had no documented activity on his end at all. It was brought to management and he had to return a couple accounts to inbound. But other than that, he got a slap on the wrist because he said he didn't understand the rules. He claimed he thought it was 90 business days and not calendar days... lol

How would you guys handle this?

It sounds like it was already handled? What's the issue here?

So, he had called me the previous day to try to claim something of mine but his last activity was a year ago. I carefully explained the 90 day rule to him and the following day he tried to claim 2 leads from inbound. My issue here is, he knew the rules but decided to try his luck anyway.

If it's just the other rep trying to do it, I'd probably just ignore them. Keep your manager informed on what's going on

Sounds like your typical sales rep who won't last longer than two years bc they'll run out of rules to break.

Keep your head up, bring your concerns to mgmt with a solution how to correct. Most importantly keep your head up, this won't be the last time some idiot tries to steal your deal. I had a president that would take deals from reps if it went over a certain dollar amount and only paid a finders fee, not even a percent...

Appreciate it man, and you're absolutely right. It sucks, but I'm not going to let this affect my morale. I've often heard stories of shady reps/managers and you hope it never happens at your company... but I guess I just got my first taste of it.

Head down and grind my friend. I had a dirty one on our team who eventually got caught and was termed. He evaded detection for a while but he got his eventually. You just worry about grinding and the turds will eventually get themselves fired

Bring it to management. Also remember everyone wants to look good so he’s trying to do that. Messed up in the way that he goes about it but bring it to your manager and let them handle it. Control what you can the rest that you can’t will give you anxiety if you try to control it

Thanks for your advice. As a new sales rep it was kind of a shock to see. But you're right, it's not under my control so it's pointless to agonize over.

Eh don't waste any time into this person. They are on the radar now. I highly doubt they'll be around much longer.

If the rules are clear he will not get any of your commissions. Just make sure to check when he claims something of of you.
