Shitty Coworker

I'm normally all for worker power and fuck the boss and all that but I've got a coworker  that keeps dropping the ball on projects. Their clients CC me on emails asking where things are. it makes our whole company look bad and also I could be making real money with these accounts. What would you do?

Have a convo with the co-worker at a coffee shop or something, just not in the office. Ask what's going on and what they need help with. Don't be accusatory as they will just be defensive.

Try to have this be a teachable moment and help them, this will be great experience if you every want to be a manager

Yeah I’ve been a manager before, the issue is they’ve got seniority on me. On paper they look like my superior to clients, but that’s not the case.

If they continually fuck up then this is what needs to happen.

1. talk to the person about it! let them know they are dropping the ball. but be nice.
2. stay ontop of them
3. if it doesnt get better go to your boss, let them know the situation, what you have already done, what the real problems are and what you would like help with

I agree here. At least talk to the person first... you never know what is going on behind the scenes. After that, and still no improvement, let the CC's begin.

I would have a 1:1 conversation with them and take the approach like 'hey are you ok? I'm noticing that you're missing some things lately and that's just not like you [even if it is] and I wanted to see how I can help?'

I'd start with the nice @Kosta_Konfuciusapproach, and if nothing changes pivot to the harsher @CuriousFoxmethod.

I don't think there is any way to avoid an awkward conversation. Treat it like a sale. Ask questions, figure out what the real issue is, and see if you have a way to help solve it without taking on all the work yourself. If it continues after that, the two of you need to sit down with a manager together.
