Yes. That’s many times what happens in sales, in general, at all levels. The top rep blows out their number and is in accelerators and making more than their boss.

is that true for an SDR though? from what I know in the market SDRs are often the bottom of the food chain with salaries <50k OTE.

SDR Managers would be closer to 100k OTE from what I know as this would be the first management position you would get after being a rep.

from the AE perspective and higher roles, I do 100% agree with you. reps should make more than their managers

I thought the same when i read this, SDRs are pretty locked in at 50k and ote could be 60k but no where close to managers. ISR/AEs for sure though

I definitely knew SDRs pushing 6 figures, totally crushing it.

The average SDR in the SF Bay Area makes 84k if they hit their number. The top performer SDRs are at 105k. Found this info on Repvue

Gotcha - so take the San Fran pay bump for cost of living increase and its likely equal to 50-60K with highs of 75K for most other areas of the country

A lot of companies are getting rid of variable salaries, depending on where you live.

It’s one set amount, and if it’s not enough for you, move to Kansas.

so no comp at all? what is the point in a sales role if it's all base. (unless the base is massive)

Sorry, I meant OTE.

It’s the same offer regardless of where you live in the country.

Yep that's all part of the gig you choose. It happens all the time with good sales people. The SDR manager might not make as much money but the numbers that rep helps them reach sure make them look good.

Is that the same for a top performing AE than their Sales Manager?

Absolutely. Top reps in most software companies are probably making $750k-$1m+ and I guarantee that’s not what their managers are making.

100% yes. And Sales people at the top should make more than sales management. Thats how the plans are drawn up, just kot realistic quotas.

Absolutely in terms of commission opportunities.  Part of being an SDR messenger is they aren't out selling and prospecting anymore, so there job is for you to get to perform at a high level.  They reap rewards for you reaping rewards.

It is way easier to be a sales mgr than an SDR so I would say yes that makes sense.

250% yes; with the caveat that the team structure doesn't require the SDR manager to work harder to land deals, than the SDR themselves.  You should make good money, as long as YOU do the work.  If I have to do it, I don't need you.

Take a look at repvue.com for insight on 'best places to work as a salesperson'. This is not a sponsored recommendation I look at it frequently to identify possible career paths.
Gong just have shit-hot marketing and are in-form. Same with companies like Chili Piper and Deel. Frankly, any business where the sales reps claim to be doing 284% are either a) lying or b) their targets are too low and they're about to be re-evaluated.
