What is the point of the BDRs then?

I think that would just be a BDA, or someone that is there to human verify your leads, meaning your calls are going only to decision makers. That's how I see it, and I'm a BDR and it's wonderful hahahahah

Pretty much, we have those and it just lets us dial without having to look for the number and do all that work. I've done it and it's alright but not for me, a lot of data input.

My man turn the caps lock off. Why would a BDR be closing deals?ย

Are you referring to some type of virtual assistant that puts together the prospecting lists?

YOUR CAPS LOCK IS ON.

You're describing a sales intern...which lots of companies have.

Technically, but if you hire an intern at $15/hr and have them source good 30 leads and even half of those you convert. That's good money!!

So hiring interns instead of BDRs? Or hiring interns to source leads for BDRs to prospect?

I think your customer acquisition cost might go out of whack if you're hiring an intern to source a lead for a BDR to prospect for an AE to close. You planning to insert anyone else into the process?

You could just buy a list.

Some companies have BDAs, some companies don't if they don't, well BDR's would have to generate leads or depend on marketing for that.

What do you think? Answer your own question so that we can have a conversation based on your particular situation.

Are you the hiring manager? Will you be working with these new BDRs/interns?

Edit: updated question prompting based on small shreds of context from other replies.

Well the BDR will be working with the interns they can technically report to the sales managers. And then you train the interns to be the BDRs and the cycle continues!!ย

Never assign a BDR, whose whole world is to set up meetings for AEs, to manage people. They are fresh to the game themselves and trying to figure it all out, so why would you toss them a brick when they are already drowning?

Are you just posing this question for fun, or is your org considering this? Your tag says Sales Ops, so I'm also confused why you would add complexity to your own job.

I should have been clear, when you are a BDR 2 or 3 level, that's when you will get aย  sourcing intern. (you can put a comp model for the intern too)ย

I was BDR prior to this and worked my way up. If you have sold real estate and fitness services, you will not understand selling for SAAS companies. But appreciate the feedback!ย

My take: call them SDRs, and treat it as the entry-level role to your sales org. That way they feel empowered in a way that interns often do not. Build it out as your BDR feeder program (minor league sales), and design comp programs/promotion ladders that reflect what success means to the role.

Nay - in fact, I think companies should let BDRs develop their own "Best Prospect"...Dislike when companies pull old school moves. Here's a list of 200! Can't reach out to anyone else until you bombard that list at least 10 times! Lol.ย

That probably opens up a rabbit hole of more and more stuff. Also, that's a pretty awful internship and you'd only get use out of it ~3months of the year.

You could hire a VA if you really wanted to do something like this

If a BDR is making enough to outsource this workload then go for it. High earning inside sellers at VARs do this via college interns or other viable contract workers for admin work that needs doing just not priority.ย
