Should I ask for a raise with the title change?

I've officially been moved to an Enterprise and partnerships role, so still a BDR, but the accounts I'll be reaching out to are mainly fortune 500 and enterprise companies.

For Enterprise BDR reps out there or anyone with similar experience, would you ask for a raise in pay or change to your commission structure? My current pay is 60k base and 100k OTE. Should I not rock the boat and keep doing my job, or do I have a case here? If I'm off base here, lmk. Been over >100% my quota for the past 5 months.

Always ask. Especially now that you have more responsibilities.

This^ They clearly value you enough to give you more responsibilities. They probably value you enough to pay you more

Yes. Whatโ€™s the worst they can say - no? Donโ€™t forget that thereโ€™s a labor shortage ๐Ÿ‘€

Your numbers support your ask.ย

Yup, the transition starts Monday, so should speak to my manager/director about it. Not saying I would, but our competitors are hiring like crazy too, so in the case things go south for some odd reason, I should be able to get my way in to them.ย

Of course you should - the worst that could happen is they say no and you have a strong case for a raise. Closed mouths don't get fed!

Appreciate it. Felt like it was too early of an ask since I've only been here 5 months, but seeing as how I've brought in some pretty large accounts and exceeded numbers since the beginning, starting to see the value add in my abilities for the ask.ย

Definitely. Sounds like with the title change and proof that you've been exceeding targets they're going to have a hard time defending keeping you at the same wage.

Yeah man. Never sell yourself short. Youโ€™re selling your time to the company you work for so you have to make it count. I used to have thin skin when negotiating with employers and I realized if you can drive demand for the product youโ€™re selling, then you can drive it for yourself. I also agree with Incognito, itโ€™s hard to find talented people who want to work these days so youโ€™re in the drivers seat.ย

Increase in responsibilities should equal increase in pay, either base or variable, ask away. Back it up with data and not emotions

You're already maxing out the base at lots of big-name companies for SDR roles, maybe even some startups for AE roles. I don't think your experience nor your skillset will garner a raise. Not a personal attack, more how the industry works.

That said, you don't get what you don't ask for.

Appreciate the response. 50-70| 60-90 base|OTE is the stat I have from Q1 comp guide for my region for Enterprise SDR's, so you're right about that. I guess I ask given the labor crunch, title change I'd put it out there.ย

Easiest rule to apply here:

Title change alone = don't ask for it
New responsibilities = ask
Title change + new responsibilities = definitely ask for it

There is zero harm in asking, but make sure you have some sort of support. That being said I can tell you that your compensation is on the upper end (too 10%) for SDRs from the research Iโ€™ve done

Is it simply a title change with no new responsibility? If there is an increase in responsibility there should be a pay increase IMO.

I suggest always asking but be prepared for them to tell you no.

Absolutely. They've given you more responsibility going after bigger accounts, locked in with a title change, and it will likely be harder to hit quota. Can't have their cake and eat it too.ย
