Should I quit now or wait to get fired?

If you're on a pip (which I'm totally not) is it best to just wait and get fired or quit now for my dignity?

Being able to control your own destiny / shape the narrative is critical. If you think you're gonna get let go, focus your energy on interviewing now (while you have a job) so you can get "poached" from your current company, instead of being one a thousand reps that don't have a job.

If you are currently employed, people will do less reference checking on you anyway (you can say "my company doesn't know i'm looking), so they won't find out you're on a PIP anyway.

Totally agreed here. Having interviewed & hired dozens (hundreds?) of reps, if I see you're currently employed I don't ask questions... if you're no longer working I have to ask the "why aren't you at Company X anymore?".

Being fired doesn't immediately disqualify you, but it is certainly a strike against you.

If you quit now, you won’t be eligible for unemployment benefits and your company might still give you severance. If your ego can survive it, stay on while looking for another job.

It depends on the circumstances, but ultimately only you know how best to proceed.  It's also not too late to turn things around in your current role.

I'd add that if you are thinking of quitting, start looking for a new job now so that you don't have a gap in your employment.

It looks much better to be employed while you’re searching for another job, do anything you can to keep your job until you get another one, or improve performance at your current employer

What's going to stop someone from saying that they're still employed even if they're not...

It depends on the situation, but generally it's easier to find a job when you have a job. Most employers expect team members to start looking when they are on a PIP. It also depends on how much you love the job you have. Often times PIPs are used as a way to push out a team member. The one benefit of getting fired is that you will get unemployment if you need that extra security. Don't cut off your nose to spite your face.

I agree. It’s easier to find a job when you have a job. If possible, I would suggest getting a real offer elsewhere first before leaving current company

I got fired recently (ironically had nothing to do with PIP) and it fucked with my psyche while job searching. Will probably give you more interview swagger if you have a job and aren’t as *desperate*

Do interviews. I don't like beinf fired at all you will always have to explain yourself unless it's a major layoff thing.
That being said if there is a termination package then wait for it if you didn't get an offer yet.
I know a friend who is working in tobacco in Egypt and is waiting to get fired because the laws for people who worked more than 10 years in the same company forces the employer to compensate them for 3 months for every year lumpsum untaxable cheddar. So if you are in a similar situation then i say hell yea wait to get fired.

Best time to look for a job is while you have it. Wait to get fired and run with it

Depends how realistic the PIP is. Some companies are just giving you a heads up that your ass is gone in 90 days and make the PIP unachievable...and if you do achieve the impossible in that case...you'll find out that you got fired for wearing a red shirt on blue shirt day a couple days later.

* My tip is to start looking while you have a job and still work to hit the PIP

I'd start looking for another job immediately. Even if you hit the goals of the pip, do you really want to stay?

Once quit a job because I thought I had another job lined up that was a scam. Ironically enough was forced to take a sales job since the job I thought I had lined up was fake and it has worked out so far😎

I survived a PIP, I really wanted to keep the job and stay...so that happened. A few years later I was sacked though.

I see both sides of it, wait and get severence or leave and save dignity. I would say leave on your own terms

Top performers are almost never out of a job. At least not for long. So if you don't have a job while interviewing I would be asking some tough questions.
