Should I reapply?

So I realized after reading a few posts and comments from hiring managers that my resume was shit. Not because I don't have the experience or success but because I'm shit at writing resumes. (To be honest I didn't put much effort into it)

So I've gotten a lot of those automated emails about "we've decided not to move forward with your candidacy at this time".

I decided to pay to have my resume done by a professional and "optimized" for the resume scoring software that recruiters use.

My question is this.

Should I reapply to the companies that sent me the automated rejection email with my new and improved resume in the chance it was all about how it scored poorly with their software? Or would the notice I already applied and shoot me down as a result?

Try reapplying and see what happens. Better yet, reach out to the hiring manager saying I was denied by resume screening, but believe that I would add value to your team. I went out and revamped my resume to better show what I can bring to your company. Attach resume and go above and beyond the easy apply button.

This is good stuff right here. I’ve mentioned it a few times but always go directly to the hiring manager if you can. Whenever I get someone directly in my inbox they are 2/3 of the way through the process and are absolutely getting an interview. Side note I feel invested in your search now. I’m pulling for you hard to land what you are looking for!

Hell yeah reapply with the new resume. Delete your old one out of your profile too.

100% reapply. But like @canewolf mentioned I would use referrals if you can. And if you know nobody at a company you like, just find somebody to connect with and ask them to refer you. Win-win, because likely they get a referral bonus. At my previous company 75% of new hires were referred.

Never thought about that which makes me feel a bit slow, some companies offer awesome referral bonuses so I'm sure anyone would be willing to act as my referral.

May I ask why you're throwing your resume into the void rather than networking your way in, asking for referrals or trying to get some sort of edge?

Short answer, I'm trying to get the hell outta dodge at my current company. They basically told us to download a "chat app" on our personal phones that was a bitch to download so I looked into it and it turns out it's illegal in like 5 countries for basically being Spyware.

When I brought up my concerns there were some issues.

Also, have you tried working with a recruiter? The folks at Betts, Avenue Talent Partners and others would probably be happy to help (I believe you’re in the US).

I've given it some thought, I've worked with them before but that's what landed me where I'm at

If you get the job then great, if you don’t then you haven’t lost anything. No harm in doing it!

Do not reapply via their ATS (applicant tracking system). Go find their recruiters and message them directly. Explain you took their feedback via their automation as constructive criticism, leading you to improve your resume. Send it to them directly and request they review it personally.

You lost me at "to be honest I didn't put much effort into it"

Writing a resume to attract recruiters is the equivalent of dressing to impress someone's parents.
