Should I send now or delay delivery for the morning?

Hey you sales savages who like me work late to complete the admin stuff like research, building proposal or in this case writting emails...

Let me ask you this question, how do you determine if you should send your email or delay delivery to the morning?

It has been a personal debate for various reasons :

  1. If it's an emergency and I couldn't answer earlier it feels like I am showing dedication to my customer or my manger
  2. I feel like it is more decent to respect ones personal time and send it first thing tomorrow with a delay delivery rather then in the middle of the night
  3. Can it be wrong perceived or unethical if you receive an email from a sales person at 11:45PM?
  4. How many customer called/txt/emailed me on a Friday night or Sunday night?
  5. Finally I always ask myself what kind of service would I like to received if I was the customer?

Let me know what you think!

Cheers OG

Test it. Test it and see what the data tells you. I went through the same questions and started segmenting and testing email delivery times. I had prospects that loved it and others that wouldn’t respond if it wasn’t during work hours. For me the vast majority would get back to me first thing in the morning so I had a fresh stack of emails to work through first thing. The minority forgot about it and didn’t respond. Big caveat though as some of my biggest deals didn’t like late emails. So I learned to determine what factors told me if anytime or specific time emails made the most sense. Every pipeline is gonna be different so getting some personal data will pay off in spades. It’ll help you figure out a solid cadence and get some key data points on how to manage things going forward. No one size fits all answer but you can definitely get a good feel of works in your space. Ultimately one universal truth I found was the faster I responded the faster I got my closed won.

Send it when it’s convenient for you. If you’re day is bifurcated because you have xyz to do, it’s fine to send late or early. It’s not like the email coming in sets off an alarm at the clients house.

As @bonez responded, you will have to do A/B testing to see what's working for your segmented. I would prefer to send emails during the business hours (on business days) but if you get any response try to connect back asap.

Just trying to understand your goal here? Are you trying to achieve more open rates?

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
People will get back to you on their own time. I wouldn't sweat it. You do you.

I generally prefer to get something out early in the moring than late at night. Better chance of it being high in the inbox and not getting buried by spam throughout the evening. Personally, if I receive an email "after hours", I generally wont address it til the next day unless all hell is breaking loose. That said, I have no data to back this up.

Don't let their phone buzz late at night. Do you like it when yours does?

My rule:
respect peoples time. If they start replying to you at odd hours, you’re golden. Otherwise, delay messages.

I don't think you have to worry so much about how your timing is perceived when it comes to email. My concern would be more along the lines of open rates. From what I've seen, open rates are higher with emails sent either just before or just after regular business day starts.

I mean, If I get emails after work hours, I ignore them. I don't care how you spend your after hours time.

Thanks all for your comments and valid feedback. At the end you do you is probably the best advice since everyone else is taken right? 🧀 Tbh I think that respect goes a long way so adapting to the type of person you have on the other side is the key to selling successfully. Peace ✌ OG
