Should I switch jobs?

I was promoted to an AE 4 months ago. I am in SMB, selling software. I just got a offer for 22K higher base for an SDR in enterprise software sales.Do you see accepting this job as taking a step backward? Do you consider enterprise a step up from SMB?

AE to SDR is always a step back. Unless you hate being an AE, why bother? If you're successful as an AE you should be making that 22k in a few months.

Think about it this way: How would you explain the move when you are interviewing for the next role?

Also, why not ask for a raise since you can prove the market is paying more for lesser roles.

Never go from AE to SDR.

The SDR Role is a dead end.  Get out of it.

If your company could run Ads, they won't even need SDRs.

You want to get to an AE role and move to the Enterprise and hold strategic accounts.  Don't be foolish here and take steps back.

There are a billion companies hiring great Account Executives for Enterprise Sales Roles.

You can't take this risk.  Please don't. The odds are bad.

Last guy I saw do this got the WORST stigma to his name.

"The Career BDR/SDR"

This is like those 50 year olds, who are still making dials and cold calls.

Stay strong.  Stay focused.  This is a long game.  Even if you miss a few quarters, it's cool.  You will come back.

I believe in you my friend.

Think long-term, not short-term. I know money is awesome, but definitely think about how much more money you'll make in the long-run if you stay an AE.

I would never take an SDR roles from AE even if they pay me double. Might confine my future opportunities.

Disagree with the majority on one point only, though at this point it’s likely too late.
.
During the interview process if you make it brutally clear that you’re seriously pissed about having to take the step back, and that you’ll only do it if there are clear performance metrics that trigger you being promoted to AE in 6 months or less at the big org. (assuming you fuck shit up)
.
Imo. Getting into big name software can be reasonably challenging. So as long as you know you can get back to AE, and you know what the targets are, put your head down and dominate. Out perform the rest, and boom, you’re AE at the bigger company, and you’ll be making a shitload more than 22k more than present.
.
But again, likely too late to run that play now. Next time?

Only if the company is amazing, then a maybe. This is seen as a step back and hard to explain. Just close those deals, and you'll cover the difference.

I think a step back can only be defined by you.  Is this the space you want to work in?  Will you learn and the option of advancement?  Sometimes a step back can lead to many forwards.
