Should sales or marketing be over SDR teams?

I have worded for SDR orgs that were run both ways and feel that it makes more sense for them to be under sales. It was way smoother and just made more sense, at least internally.

But for some reason I still see lots of orgs being pushed under the marketing umbrella.

What are your opinions?

Sales 100%. SDRs work for AEs and AEs work for their SDRs. It’s a symbiotic relationship. If both roles aren’t receiving the same messaging (sales says do it this way marketing says do it that way) then it’s going to be hard to work together. Both need to be aligned to reach their mutual goal - how to best bring in that comish $$$&$

I work with my SDRs. I definitely do not work for them. I work for me. and then my customers.

Sales - i worked for an org where they flowed up to marketing. it was terrible for the SDRs who wanted any hope of real growth in skillset

Honestly, depends on the org. But 80% of the time or so, SDRs should roll up to sales. Some factors include size of org, product, sales cycle, etc. My 2 cents at least.

Sales 10,000%. If Marketing sets the stage for early development, then BDRs are being molded for Marketing vs. Sales.
