my 2 cents. yes breaking into tech is the shit. youll join anywhere for that raise. agreed. now you can actually eat, however, you quickly find the drawback of joining ANY company. congrats on getting in, but now you need to find the place that has a better culture/performance history/ management.


Sales ppl dont quit their jobs they quit their managers.

I'd suggest finding a place that has 100% or near it SDR-AE promotion, and at lesat on avg 90% quota attainment.


When they ask you why you're leaving say the promotional path wasn't there/ wanted more of a challenge or some shit like that.

If you plan on quitting because of your shitty manager, I always recommend one last ditch effort for a coup. Throw your manager under the bus somehow and make them look like shit. Hell, maybe even go their superior and make some shit up. You're quitting anyway, may as well throw a hail mary and see if they'll get canned before you decide to leave.

I’ve done this before I highly reccomend, I let the CRO and HR and the CEO know. Next month after i left both the Dir and Mgr of sales was fired and they actually have a decent sales mgmt team now. Urwelcome.

I was like look. *pulled up my SF - I sourced 300k in revenue this year. 20% more then anyone else in my segment, or the segment above me, with the most inexperienced ae on the team. Not a word was said about it and when i asked my manager about raises they said I wasn't hitting quota. Yet. I brought in the most revenue. Our manager inhibits our performance, gives bad advice, and tells us to 'double down' our activity instead of actually leading. 

Look, your 3 best performers just left for other positons, at better companies, for better roles, why do you think they did that? I love this company and I wanna stay here and make you all money but I'm not getting paid enough and have people offering me near double in my LI dms. Everyone else on our team probably does too. 

Your ramping employees are fired or quit before they've completed their ramp or the first month into their performance, this is why. 

They ended up thanking me, asking me to 'hold on a little longer' that they would 'take care of it' but I said fuck it and doubled my salary and let them know, they came back with a 50% bump, which was an insult because they could of given that to me before hand. So i left anyways.

I’ve done this as well. Director threaten to fire me when i was in the top 20% of revenue generators, not just on his team but the entire mid-market AE employee pool. Called his bluff, had a 1:1 with him telling him to apologize or accept my 2 weeks because i got an offer somewhere else. (Unfortunately, the new gig sucked but it was almost worth it just to stick it to this guy). He didn’t apologize, i quit, VP wanted to know why I was leaving, threw him under the bus, guy got fired a few months later.

That’s right, Dave. Fuck yourself, you dumb prick.

Also, just to stick it to him extra hard, I managed to close a small deal in my last two weeks to hammer the point across that they were losing someone who could close even on the way out the door.
