Should your Ramp Quota relief count towards or against your annual target?

Hello team,

Some context: I started with company at beginning of year but had nearly a quarter of ramp and full quota relief. During that time, I did not have access to my accounts, so I wasn't able to close any deals.

Being told now by Commission team that my annual target is based on start date and not when I began selling. Thus, I am not hitting accelerators in place that would give me that fat pre-holiday commission checks that I've been building up for the entire time I've had my Book of Business.

Given this, do you all feel like I'm getting shafted? How is Ramp handled from an annual target perspective in your company?

What’s your comp plan say? Dig deep to read it and understand. If it’s not outlined in there in a clear and significant manner take it to your management, and their management. Get as many data points to show your understanding is correct and get your bosses on your side. From what you describe it should be a quota that’s adjusted for ramp, but if it’s not outlined in your plan, you may be stuck.

My ramp plan was just a lower overall quota, adjusted heavily downward for my Q1 target, but it doesn't sound as though this one is that straightforward.

My annual target was not adjusted down. I was given quota credit at 100% on monthly targets but with $0 actual attainment.

Now, the good news is they're not looking to claw that back.

I do need to read through the plan in greater detail but I do not believe I could make a case to negate that.

The question was more of a curiosity in how other companies handle this, especially for early- and mid-year hires and whether annual targets (and thus revenue generated required to hit accelerators) changes.

Yeah, it looked like your situation was different than mine, which was just that I have a lower quota this FY.

Glad they're at least not doing a clawback.

Most of the time accelerators are based on fully ramped target unless specifically stated in the compensation docs. My comp plans pay accelerators on the ramp target if the employees starts before March, after March in order to get paid on accelerators rep had to achieve what would be full target. Always something to get clarity on when you sign your papers

FEELINGS- Your commission is annual (ARR) but the customer paid monthly (MRR) and if there is a churn in the next few months, the company will deduct by increasing your quota and taking the equivalent amount $$ from your quota in the next month.
