Silence is golden

during a negotiation call today we asked the client for her feedback and she was silent. we sat awkwardly staring at eachother on zoom for fucking 6 minutes and 49 seconds before she told me that the proposal was fucking atrocious.

1 minute at most. Southern people generally like to talk and they have ZERO problem telling you when they don't like something. 🤷‍♀️

Yah she asked to speak to my manager obviously. “This is Software sales not a fucking super market. Sorry the price is higher now than it was 3 years ago. “ is what I said in my head as she continued to share her disappointment then logged off the zoom.

Yeah I wait for them to give feedback first but the longest it’s been was maybe a minute, they tell you to F off and “what’s my price”. You didn’t earn a discount bc you were an asshat to me so take it or leave it

Oh boy
One time my girlfriend asked me for feedback and I opted to stay silent. It's been 3 years....does that convert her to an ex-girlfriend?

My longest pause - prospect nodded and agreed to each and everything I spoke about and after the call, he became Mr. Invisible. Caught him after a month on a cold call where he said he was expecting the deal at 20% of the actual price and now I was silent 😬

Oof. How did you manage expectations?

We always talk about budget and costs early - I don't like tire kickers.

Professionally it’s never been more than a minute. Way to stay disciplined. Make them speak first!

That's AMAZING!!

I've had several minute ones many times, but it was in the beforetimes and over the phone. Never had that on a video call.

I tip my hat to you, sir

As a Brit that is six minutes too long of silence and awkwardness. We take a minute even just say bye in different ways!
