Size Doesn't Matter

Now that I've got your attention.

I went through an early recruiter interview and one of the companies I was presented does their monthly quota by # of deals and not a rev number. They DO have an annual Rev quota though.

Has anyone ever dealt with that? Is it weird? Again, it was very preliminary so I don't have much more info. Just struck me as strange right away.

I have not run into that before.  Monthly/quarterly quota targets have always related to the annual quota number in my experience.

I've seen this before, doesn't sound that weird to me. It's not ideal because as long as I'm reaching my financial targets it shouldn't really matter if I got there doing 10 small deals or five big ones.

Thats kind of what my thinking was. Less deals for an equal amount of money seems more efficient

Yup, I agree. But I'd think that if you're hitting your hard targets by EOY that a company isn't going to punish you for not hitting your monthly targets. A smart one wouldn't, anyway.

When you’re hunting elephants, don’t get distracted by rabbits.

It seems like they want elephant numbers, but rabbit hunting? Doesn’t really mesh with something I’d be interested in. I’d rather work 3 deals a year and blow my number away instead of 15 a month.

Some comp and growth plans are based on logo acquisition rather than revenue acquisition. You should plan to bring on x number of partners/customers per month, but make sure you are applying large order numbers ($$) against them to hit your annual number.

i guess that could make sense considering it is a startup. wanting to grow customer base could be the focus

again super early in the process so I am still learning more, but it seemed as if its monthly commission based on # of deals

I wouldn't like or do this myself because although I'm hitting my quota and am near the top of my leaderboard, I do it in fewer deals for whatever reason. So my ASP is higher

Yes, it’s odd. Doesn’t always work very well, usually from the board that these words come from!

I have that coming now, and it is a "keep everyone busy" game where the top of the funnel gets jammed with garbage so that teams can quantify their existence. If you hit your $ quota, that's usually what really matters.
