So, this is something that needs some details. Yes, partially because of prurient interest, but also because knowing what happened or is happening can be helpful.

Context:

Previous VP and director were pushed out/fired. They were great non micro managing leaders that focused on production and good culture. Overall loved by all and for good reason.

New VP is a dick from outside the industry. Reports of him verbally abusing others have come up a lot since he took office 4 months ago.

- We now have skip level 1:1 meetings (boss’s boss meets with us to essentially micro manage my boss)
- Expenses are being heavily nit picked and micro managed
- Salesforce activity has tripled with reports and pipeline shit (when do we sell???)
- anxiety of being watched and booted is always looming
- overall went from having the freedom to do whatever was necessary to produce to now our wings have been totally fucking clipped. Plus the loss of motivation to even keep the brand/product moving forward

This company pays better than most in my industry so here we are , at the moment , taking it up the ass

Hope that provides a better framework for my original post

Thanks Fam

They call me Daddy, Sales Daddy
So the difficulty is that the previous leaders were ousted. There was a reason for this, even if you don’t know it. And there’s a reason the 🍆 hired, which you also may not know. So it’s a political situation. And if the new VP is fired, it may look bad for the person who hired him.

He’s managing via SF, which is always not good

I would develop a good relationship with HR here. I hate saying that, but in this case they could be your ally. Document everything and have “confidential” conversations with HR. Build the case as well as protect your job. Because what’s next is that he will start firing people who push back and you need to establish that he was creating a toxic work environment.

HR is not your friend, though. Spot on with documenting things, but I wouldn't bother with HR meetings.

Usually I too would say screw HR. But if you have the right HR it can be helpful to get ahead of things.

It helps to have a healthy paranoia with HR.

Dude another thing that forgot to mention. My company was going to go “public” via this article below and now we’re not. Money was spent and now we took a 75 million dollar loan.

Sorry to hear. Without many details, I am guessing it could be for a variety of reasons, such as: (a) wanting to hire his own people (b) there is a personality conflict (c) he is going through some personal issues (d) he's just a jerk in general. If it were me, I would give him the benefit of the doubt. At least in the short term. If it continues, I may ask to sit down with him and ask him if there was anything that you "did" (in a professional manner) as it seems as though he's unhappy with you. Depending on his response, you can decide if you would be happier elsewhere. Generally speaking, this stuff happens and it is a shame when a change in leadership can cause employees to leave. I hope things improve!

For about 50% of new VPs, it's almost a right of passage to be an asshole. Unfortunate reality.

If you have anything signed, that’s all you are entitled to. I would start looking and make them fire you unless you find something good.

Happened to me at the last place. New vp was incompetent and a giant ass hole. Nothing you can really do but leave and take the beating. But you might as well try to take him down
