So I know it’s a bit different than the standard I’ve seen here on the app….

I've been selling cars for 6 months, very grueling work honestly and I can see why the industry has such a high burnout. I'm looking to get into Saas as an SDR and have been looking around. do you think it's a good idea to leave for something in the field, especially given the recession?
I'm not bad at car sales at all, I've been either hitting or exceeding my "quota" every month. the hours and the work life balance is just abysmal. I also don't have a college degree, but did go.

Look for jobs and leave?

I got my start in sales selling cars. It sucks. But it is great training. You learn how to overcome objections, you learn how to get bitched at and kicked in the balls without letting it affect you. And most importantly, you learn how to deal with pain in the ass customers. I have never been in a job where the customers are as obnoxious and entitled as people buying cars.

Absolutely look into SaaS. But don't think that your car sales experience is time wasted or won't translate over either.

While you are gaining excellent sales experience, check out the jobs tab. 😉

You can start looking while you work, and quit when you find something suitable.   SDR/BDR in a SaaS company is generally a starting position, and you have some sales skills now.  Most but not all SaaS sales are B2B rather than B2C, but the talk track and communications are things you can pick up along the way.

CuriousFox mentioned the Jobs tab - look left, see what's there, and look up the companies to learn a little about them.  Apply, interview, and be prepared to communicate your ability to learn quickly, work hard, and your success in the car sales world.

Look - if things don't pan out in tech/SaaS, you can always go back to auto sales, so you really don't have anything to lose pursuing another career path.

Selling cars is an absolute grind, so you'll be well suited for for SDR work.

I'd 100% start looking for something in SaaS.

I'd imagine you're 100% commission as well, so that base + commish will be nice.

You definitely have transferrable skills too

Haha yep, 100% commission. I get a draw on my commission but it’s really either a $6k month or a $3k month it’s incredibly bipolar.

Keep selling but also find something new.

Plus you'll free up your weekends.

SDR
I made a career transition into sales as an SDR; I didn't come from a sale background either (Social Worker at a Daycare). I think if you have the means to quit your car sales job and apply for an SDR role, then do it. If not, sit tight and still interview.

I know for some people, the job hunt is the hardest part, especially in SaaS.

During the interview process, check out the company's info like who their investors are, what companies those investors also invested in and how they performed. It could give you a good idea of the company's future and success.

Good luck!

How do you keep yourself motivated under pressure? Yes, I've heard of the usual responses like "finding your why" & "aligning yourself", etc. But I just want to get to the meat of the solution. Are there any specific tactics you guys use to keep yourselves motivated?

I hear how LinkedIn has taken over B2B sales within recent years but I'm still an avid believer in multiple channels. What channel have you found to be most effective in the B2B space? and Why?
