SOS: SDR Comp ⬇ Changes

Long story short: I was an SDR last year (performed very well) with a great base + OTE.

Then they removed the position entirely, put me into a made up position with ¼ bonus of what I made as SDR (with a tiny AF "raise"), and when the sales team couldn't support themselves, they brought it back. They're putting me back in to the SDR role with the same goals of # of meetings & # Stage 2 opps... but with the "new" comp of ¼ OTE as I would have made before. Take or leave it kind of deal.

What the hell do I do?!

They need you. You don’t need them. Never let any company take advantage of you like that.

Have you gone back to ask them about getting your old comp plan back? I'd use the whole Chris Voss "how am I supposed to do my former job for less pay?" kind of thing. Or "how to you expect me to achieve the same results while getting paid less?" Be upfront and just pause.

Might be worth a shot to see what they say. If you're not happy with their answers/results then get looking for a new role!

I've been doing some research over the weekend to bring  solid negotiation in, but im wondering if it's even worth it.

I would actively hit the market, and when you find a new home make the move.  I've only changed a compensation plan for my reps twice in 20 years (and one of those times was to lower targets due to COVID in 2020), anyone who expects you to do the job for less needs to learn a hard lesson about employee retention.

Ah... yeah my plan has been changed every quarter (same overall payout but higher goals...aka pay less for more results?)

Update for anyone who cares:
They didn't budge, didn't accept me in other roles, so I'm leaving end of this month.
If you hear of sales enablement roles, holler!
