Starting a podcast internally at my company...

Found this idea from someone on Twitter and I absolutely love it.

I want to start a podcast within our company where I interview senior employees about their career stories.

I'd pitch the idea as creating an evergreen asset for new employees to listen to during their onboarding week at our company. Start with the highest up person I have a relationship with (that would be our vice president) and then let them recommend who should be the next guest.

I feel like a lot of younger/greener employees always want to know how the VPs, Regional Managers, etc landed in the position they have and this would be a great format to bring this to them.

Alright, now roast me and tell me this idea sucks so I can get back to cold calling ๐Ÿ˜‰

Great idea if you're kicking ass and crushing your quota. Your execs will love you and will want to talk to you.ย

If you're at the bottom of the dashboard, you might want to wait a bit until you hit your number or else the execs will get another reason to add to the ever-growing list of "what is this guy doing?".ย

Completely valid and good point to consider.ย

I'm on track to hit quota but I'd want to implement this after my first 12 months at the company.ย

I love culture-positive stuff like this. Who cares if itโ€™s corny or pure fluff, it reflects well and at least SOME people will enjoy it.

Appreciate it Beans. We have a great culture within our walls and I think it would be well received. Even as a remote employee, I'm constantly sent gift cards, gifts, etc to make me feel loved.ย

They sent my wife flowers last week because she was having some post pregnancy issues.ย

Little stuff like that goes a long way with me.ย

We sell to Real Estate guys and Podcasting is great - you do run into more DQed leads but you can present yourself as a thought leader

I'd keep this podcast merely internal within our company.ย

Off the top of my head, there's about 25-30 people I could interview that I have a personal relationship with.ย

I see - Podcasting eats up a ton of time for editing, etc. so not sure if it's worth it to help hit your numbers.ย

Yeah it has nothing to do with hitting my numbers. Solely a cultural thing within our company.ย

I've done this exact thing at my company and it really took off, go for it!

Love hearing this!ย

Was it well received by leadership?ย

Yes - as long as you get your day job down and hit quota, it's all ok!

I would recommend using Anchor as an easy way to get started, the Blue Yeti mikes are fairly cheap, but reasonable sound, and Zencastr is a free tool for recording multiple audio tracks individuallyย

Iโ€™ve heard a few mention anchor. Iโ€™ll need to check it out. Appreciate it!

How does this help you hit your numbers?

It doesn't. Which is why I'd actually enjoy doing it ๐Ÿ˜‰

Well, they tried doing it in my old company and it made it a whole two episodes before they grew tired of it, knowing theyโ€™ll never get paid to do it. If you have a culture, HR, or training dept or budget, fall it under one of those categories and get an OKR list item to do it. And for the love of God, have an endgame. Pick how many episodes to get done first so if you hate it, at least you have a season complete. Have the same template of questions, with leeway for different roles. Keep them short.
