Starting From Scratch

My question to my fellow commission comrades is what some of the top priorities should be from day 1 as the ONLY sales pro- My first thought is work through the current/past customers and get caught up on the existing pipeline and I have some ideas but I am looking for any and all advice, from targets, to creating a sales process from the ground up, and everything in between...so WHAT SHOULD I DO!?!?! (Some particulars of my situation below)

So I just quit my sales job from the past 2.5 years to take a new opportunity in a much smaller company and team. I am moving on from copier sales co of 250+ employees to a video production house of 6 workers with an emphasis on talent spotlights and product content (positions to fill, new products, mission videos, new HQ spotlights, etc.). The company has done well enough off the relationships the owner has with other area business owners for the past 7 years but wants to see if if they can really start cooking with fire by having an actual sales person - that is where I come in.

Can you meet with the owner to find out if there are companies he would like to work with? Put on your account management hat and introduce yourself to customers look for low hanging fruit. Iโ€™d casually toss out โ€œif you know anyone else looking for xyz- let me knowโ€ for prospecting is look at my top 10-20customers and go after similar companies in their space.ย

Yeah Softwarebro, that is basically my number 1 priority - owner and I will be working hand in hand for the initial months - and getting in front of the current customers and seeing if there is more opportunity or find out what kind of benefit my video company was to them to build an living ROI for the net new prospects. ย

I like the additional thought of going after similar companies from the standing rolodex b/c I can use similar templates/success stories. Thanks for the input!

Find out why the current clients do business with your company. (Ask the owner to do a survey) Buy Mike Weinberg's book New Sales Simplified and create a Sales Story for the company.ย  That will be gold and explode your prospecting.
