Stay in Tech or leave ?

SDR at decent org with strong product market fit but it's still affected by the economy. 

Making around 70-90k Gross VHCOL

Income isn't sustainable to live a comfortable life in my area. 

Thinking of leaving tech & get a full sales cycle role (anything non tech) which puts me around 50/50 split 150k ote. 

Besides money, I'm tired of working behind a computer screen. I wanna close in person & shake hands. Seems like that only happens in the enterprise market in tech. 

One main reason I want to stay is because it seems like tech still has the highest ceiling for income. 

TLDR; stay in tech & work OE or leave the industry.

Our mid market reps get out to see customers at the tech company for which I work.

What’s really affecting my travel (I’m Enterprise) has been that many of my customers have dispersed teams in addition to remote teams, so I haven’t traveled as much as I used to.


However, there are some non-tech reps here. Hope they check in to give you some tips.

This is up to your long term goals. Do you want to sell tech, and see a path forward? If you make the move for more cash now, will it hurt you in the medium or long term? If it’s just sales, go sell for whomever you can make the most while selling.
