Stay or Go?

Sup sellers -

Here's my question (or situation)

-15 months as a commercial and enterprise SDR (high performer always exceeded quota - came in 3rd overall out of 40 SDRs for Presidents club) Q1 this year I'll be up for a corporate AE role at my current company - still technically inside sales and splitting account list/deals with field reps
- Was just offered a field sales role at a competitor that would double my base at $80k/$160 OTE and I would completely skip over another year or year and a half as an inside sales AE amd would probably put me in a way better position professionally speaking

What's your take?

Go for the AE role.

I would use the role to ask for a promotion and pay increase at your current company. If they say no, then leave.

Leaving to a new company doesn’t mean much in sales. There is a lot of risk, and you have to start over your product knowledge and customer understanding - usually building pipeline from zero.

If you can leverage the new job offer to STAY where you’re at - where you know the customers / product / culture….

Much better option for you.

Haha well since you didn’t mention any down side I’m assuming you have already made up your mind?

Seems like a no brainer when you get double your current base and get to not be an SDR anymore

I'd say bounce, although that OTE seems a little low

Unless there’s something you’re not telling us about the field position, it sounds like a good move. Braintank has a valid observation about the $.

I'd agree with@aenimahere. Get your current firm to match the offer and role, and you can skip the downside related to switching firms. If your company can't / doesn't match what you have in hand, it's a no-brainer to switch.

The power of negotiation starts now. ask for a higher base/ote at current company.

go for AE. but BE CAREFUL.
I left a very stable, boring public co to go to a sexy startup that offered me 60%+ base/OTE raise. ended up getting laid off along with 30% of the other folks.
Product sucked. Now I'm at another company with the same base/OTE and no one's really selling much right now.

appreciate the input - without giving too much away, id be going from one IPO’d company to another - both huge enterprise names in the data storage hardware/cloud space — thats why I think moving is the right move at this point for me
