So I just found out that we are expecting this fun-sized hurricane here in Florida. But what is even more exciting than that is I found out last Saturday(on my birthday) that my wife and I are expecting our 3rd child.

I have to get my ass in gear and really start selling.

I remember when my wife and I got married, we moved from Michigan to Florida 4 months after. Had to re-establish things at that point.

First of all congrats on no 3 and happy birthday!

Second, breathe. It will all be ok and you've raised 2 already and unless this one is the first boy/girl you've had then rest easy knowing clothes and other baby stuff is probably already in storage.

No better motivation for success than your kids, mine changed my outlook on life and relit the fires in my engine.

congrats my friend! When we had my first child was when i decided to leave financial services for good and commit to software.
I was leaving before he got up and coming home after he was asleep and my wife and I quickly realized this is not what we wanted.

best decision ever.

Man, I understand that. I left the restaurant industry when my first was born. I made decent money at that point 6 figures plus, but I also worked 90-100 hours, so I found a sales jobs and found out that I was pretty decent at it.

Better than expected actually haha luckily we have a family full of construction guys so that definitely helps. We just started our latest project of limewashing the outside brick so we'll see how that goes!

OK - what had me shift gears many many years ago was quitting drinking. Got me into a tech company, and I climbed up into sales and never looked back.

I grew up with alcoholics in my family and then I worked in bars for 8 years on top of that. I never wanted to drink after seeing all of that and it has positively impacted my family forever.

Before COVID, I used to be a medical interpreter, those first 4 months of the pandemic were seriously too traumatic, made me jump into sales and haven't changed gears since.

My gear-switching moment:

My wife was in the middle of a difficult pregnancy (our 2nd), and medical bills plus car trouble were eating all my financial slack.

My then 3-year-old son asked if he could play tee ball, and I had to no-shit dig through old coat pockets to put together cash outside the budget to get him signed up.

Went into sales on a mostly-commission job, busted my ass and quadrupled my income in 2 years, and have never looked back. (And now my wife works for fun instead of necessity.)
