Strengths and weaknesses

We were having a team huddle today and our manager who was praising our good team work and mentioning that our individuality was what made us a good team, my weaknesses were someone else’s strengths and so on.

He left us with a question, what would happen if the 4 of us had the same personality and shared the same strengths and weaknesses. Which let me to realize, we often think about the average salesperson with certain skills and traits like active listener or outgoing. While not every salesperson has these.

Which skills do you poses most of your fellow teammates don’t? Which do you lack?

I would say patience, most of us aren't patient at all we try to close with the first call, I know you all have! I try this too but am patient at heart. My main weakness is my tone of voice, it's really soft, hard to hear, when I was an SDR I would get hung up so much because no one could understand me, and even now as a closer, some prospects ask me to speak up.

What about you? Did you avoid yours?

Hahaha no, sorry I forgot to include mine

Weakness: would me my overconfidence, I work super hard, get shit done, get a big quota and think I'm the king of the world when I'm just a small ant in a big ant colony.

Strength: I like helping people, I no longer call to sell, but I call to have a conversation and see if we are the right fit, that pressure of closing no longer exists and it gives me a better mindset with better odds!

This is a great question. I am going to have to think about this one.

I like how your manager approached this as well. Seems like you have a good one.

I think I'm too patient at times. I can let a prospect take his time not feel rushed into anything and when the time is right, bam! But that doesn't get quota month in and month out, you know?

Also, my fear of public speaking has made my efforts for video making extremely hard, and my will to do it is damn near none. Gotta work hard at it.

I see what you are saying, it's good to be patient but anything in extreme is dangerous! I don't have a lot of public speaking fear anymore, but rarely send videos.

Analytics and Encouragement - The ability to raise everyone's spirits. I lack patience when it comes to explaining the same thing over and over. My weak spot comes when I'm very excited and ppl might think I'm immature.

Analytics is huge in sales! the ability to messure your progess and find areas of opportunity is a must in our field! Why do they think you are immature? Do you speak too fast?

I'd say introverted intuition. I have the ability to kind of "see things that are going to happen" based on a recognition of patterns and human behavior. What do I lack, Patience is something I am working on.

That's a great ability to have if you can predict a small portion of the future you can prepare for it! That is worth Gold. I wish I was more patient as well!

Strength: Ability to carry on a conversation and create rapport with anyone - I'm very disarming (some might call it charming...) A lot of my colleagues can come off as too professional or too aggressive.

Weakness: I think this is often just a salesperson weakness but patience. I've been impatient as fuck my entire life. I hate waiting, and I hate not having control.

I have seen that strength even in the WR! Based on the comments I see many of us are either too patient or too impatient.
We should ask @AlphaCharlie for tips on this regard!

I'd say a strength of mine is staying even keeled. Not letting my emotions get too high or too low allows me to stay fairly level-headed (until sales ops enters the picture) in most situations and conversations.

My biggest weakness is my patience, whether that be waiting on a deal to come through, or waiting on approval for something/a prospect to get back to me, my patience is a work in progress.

Blow it up
I think one of my biggest ones is the ability to put myself in the customer's shoes.

I feel like I'm always thinking of how they are impacted and fighting for their interestes. Relationships are the most important thing in my industry and most companies are "one and done" type attitudes.

Oh yeah, I struggle a lot with this one, but I try to get into their shoes, it's just that my feet are soo damn big they never seem to fit!

But for real, it's hard to me to slide from my sales perspective and into their pains.

The more you can see things from their view the better you will sell. You will also be able to see things they miss that are critical to their success and help guide them. I always try and position myself as a guide vs. a salesperson.

Yes, I naturally ask a lot of question. And deepdiving the answers is just natural to me. Downside is that I sometimes ask questions out of curiosity that do not really add value.

most prospects like those kind of conversation anyway.

Oh yeah, I once had a 20-minute conversation about video games, because I noticed the prospect's kid was playing a particular game, after that diversion she took the meeting. We didn't close, she wasn't as qualified, but that call is still bouncing around the office asking interns and new hires for their opinion.
