Thought of an idea I'd like to run by the community to see what everyone thinks. The reason I bring this up is because my personal top list of users who contribute insightful, worthwhile content almost never make it to the leaderboard top three. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way - in the WR MVP thread many quality users were recognized by multiple different people, yet they've never won anything.
It's no secret that there has been gaming of the leaderboard since it's inception. The WR team has done an amazing job at responding to concerns and putting limitations in place to try and stop spammers and low effort posters from benefitting. However, there will always be people looking to game the system when real money is involved and frankly, the WR team has better shit to do than fight off bots and spammers every day.
My suggestion is: take the top 5-10 posters per week and put it to a vote. A thread can be created with a mod making a comment with each of the top people's usernames, and the community can upvote the people that they feel deserve to win prizes for the week. Prizes are awarded to the three users who received the most upvotes. I agree that activity can indicate the level of effort someone is putting in inside the WR, but I think we can all agree that quality > quantity. That's why I feel that still involving the points metric makes sense, but opening it up to top 5-10 instead of top 3 makes sense to include users who might not post the most, but post some of the best content.
