Switching Jobs

I have seen in my company a large turnover rate, especially with the newer hires. I was wondering what you guys think for the high job switching and if you see it in your part of the world and industry.

How many times have you switched companies since entering the corporate world

Somewhere between 1 and 420. Depends on if you count how often I get kicked out for using a pressure washer…

hmmm that's a new way to get kicked out I guess you need to get creative with 420 different companies

Never switched, I dont necessarily love my company to death but its provided everything I have needed to this point, comp and growth wise.

I also think its allowed me to grow my career quicker since everyone my age switches jobs every 18 months. Ive had interviews with other companies that appreciate the loyalty and the ability to stick through the shit when stuff gets tough. Not opposed to leaving but at this point have never been compelled to.

I hear ya. But loyalty doesn't necessarily mean you will be paid what you are worth. Don't let that tactic get to you.

I wholeheartedly agree. I haven't stayed at this point for the sake of loyalty but because my current company has given me everything I have looked for to this point, beyond just comp.

That being said I am currently underpaid for my role, and should the correct opportunity arise that aligns with what I want, comp and others, I would leave. Just haven't been compelled to do so yet.

I completely understand this, switching jobs can be stressful and not the easiest thing especially when it is giving you everything you currently need. That is how I feel about my job, going to stick it out for at least a year and see where it goes from there

Sometimes takes a while to find footing/the right company fit. I'm on my 3rd company in about 8 years. It's all about progression - each job I left, I moved on to make more money and have more free time in the next role.....

Agreed, most people do not fall in love with their first ever job, and if you did I'm jealous!

Too many, I get brushed off as a flighty millennial, but in my defense Series C companies are a crapshoot and it is incredibly obvious when they are about to fail out in a blaze of glory. There is literally no good reason to stay and put yourself through that when you are an IC.

Plus I am damn good, so I am never not going to be able to find something that pays more and land on my feet. But I am super tired of switching every two years and am thinking of going much larger soon.

Since I’m on the app, I can’t put the link to my post, but you can go on my profile. Seems like most people in the WR don’t care about the high job switching if they are doing it for the right reasons.

I’m six years out of college and am at my fifth (and favorite) company. Life is too short to stay somewhere terrible. I also made a career switch into SaaS sales on my third job so I was still feeling out where I wanted to end up. While I love my company now and I want to stay as long as possible, I won’t hesitate to look elsewhere if a better opportunity arises

I think the most important part is that you like the company your working for and they provide you with all the necessary things you need in life. Sometimes it takes sometime to find the right company.
