Switching jobs again...software sales

Hey War room fam,

Looking for a little advice. I quit a SaaS company 8 months ago. Joined a new one where I was told "they cant handle all the inbound leads" and they offered me equity. Turns out I'm doing a bunch of the work bringing the new product to the market and I still don't have access to my shares of stock. Additionally, they capped my ramp quota when telling me I could receive extra pay if I surpass.

So, I decided to start interviewing other places because I was a little salty about not receiving my extra comp. Additionally, my current role is more of a Senior SDR as a pose to my former AE role. This new role I'm interviewing for is for also to be an AE, where I would receive equity in a publicly traded company and confirmed the marketing machine is already going.

They pretty much verbally offered me the position... Should I take it? Keep in mind I quit the AE job last year for a reason...

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
Never, ever trust "we can't handle all these leads."

What was your reason to quit the AE job previously? And I personally think being an AE is clearly better than being a SDR.

I agree, almost always AE>SDR.

Too many leads always sounds likeย "we currently get quantity > quality, marketing is working on finding our ICP" - to me.ย

I'm also with the mindset if you are not happy - leave. Because if they are not happy with you, best believe you will be gone!ย

exactly. leads can mean anything. It could be a zoom info account for all you know.ย

Yeah, I more think it falls into the "we're blatantly lying to you camp" vs "we have so much inbound because we can't sort"

ohh like the "lead" is just in zoom info, not necessarily any interest

yeah. I worked at a place where leads would be contacts that were scraped from various sources. They had a TON of leads and a huge addressable universe, but it was outbound. They talked about having a ton of leads. You should always qualify what actually constitutes a lead

Management was all over the place IMO, just double standards for everything. And then they would personally insult me to try and motivate me, which was a strategy I was not fond of. I'm pretty sure one time they even intentionally ruined a deal to sandbag it and then blamed it on me for not closing.ย

Not a great first impression. Transparency and honesty is non-negosh.ย

I had about 4 offers at one point and narrowed it down to 2. I picked one because they sounded like the place you are at but I had the false fantasy of getting hella equity and rich @ IPO. Caught them in several lies so I quit after 3 weeks and went to the other company that I turned down. Got a higher up position with a piss ton more money. It ended up working out and now I have an even better position making close to double. Do what you gotta do! We don't owe these rat companies shit.ย

Money. I don't think I can afford another 2 year tenure as SDR. Might as well jump on the AE spot

Can you not become an AE at your current company?

If you make this jump, you really can't make another for a while.

Oh, and a "marketing machine that's running" means nothing if you don't know the metrics on marketing leads. What's the average volume/month, avg close rate on marketing-driven leads, etc.

Equity seems very important to you, but consider your vesting period.ย
