Teaching people to code, will it lead to internal referral to SDR role?

I have a theory this recession will lead to companies gearing more towards automation, even with salews.

I think the future of sales salespeople will need to learn to code. I spent about 1.5 years at a certain coding bootcamp and am open to training people to code.

Do you all think this could potentially lead to an internal referral to a SDR position? I've been trying to get a saas SDR position for years, not one to give up.

No. I do not agree with this at all.

What automation does, is it takes the bottom x% of anything, and eliminates it.

So unless your sales role is at the bottom % of the work being done, your fine.

But good on you for learning to code! I know it wasn't easy.

Hard no. I don't want a seller who knows how to code, I want a seller who knows how to sell. In fact, the next interview you have for an SDR position, don't even mention you know how to code (and expunge it from your resume).

What languages would you think it would make sense to code in for sales? I can see better use of analytics tools to understand what is working. But not sure how coding backend technology will become part of the role. Unless you are saying they know more about the product.

You think the solution to automation will be to learn to code? I would instead focus on applying more, building network, chatting with people from the desired company I potentially want to join.

Coding won't help you.

Even if automation becomes more prevalent the tools sales people will use won't require coding. I can automate sales outreach today through a GUI. I don't need to learn to code to set up a outreach sequence.

I can’t even imagine how my sales job would be automated to the point where learning to code is the answer. I’m bemused, to be honest.

The last thing companies will want to do is add another layer to a sales persons day other than doing there job which is going out and winning business. This would be much more of a distraction to sales than it would be worth.

I doubt sales people will need to code. That’s what the sales engineers and solutions engineers are for. With automation, most CRMs have sequences where you can load those emails in. Even your website can have a chatbot to direct customers to live calls for demos. I just think efficiencies are going to be key, so make sure you can get your X leads a week or month in.

There will not be an automation for sales unless the world gets so brainwashed and robotic. sales generates everything that is needed for the business to operate. so why automate the one that that needs to remain unique?
